Hey all, this is my first time being on here, though BGII has been my favorite RPG style game for the longest time.

Here's the deal. Me and one of my friends play this game quite a bit. He comes over, and I have 2 computers so we play BGII through LAN. We usually go through the whole game.

So now, that we've finally gone through the whole game once, we're going to do it again as different chars. These were our first-game characters.

Me: Human Kensai/Mage dual classed, 9 Kensai Levels, 30 mage levels

    Him: Elf Thief/Mage dual class

Both were maxed out before the end. We played the game on core rules and found it to be incredibly easy. I think we're going to do the next game on hard.

So far, here's what we've been considering. We're doing 2 characters each this time, so we don't have to compromise in one character. I'm possibly making a Monk and a Sorcerer, and he's going to make a Kensai/Thief and a Mage/Specialist. Neither of us are deadset on anything yet. Here are the reasons why.

Monk: Insane bonuses, cool character ideas, martial arts are pretty kickass anyways.

Sorcerer: Versatile, overall good caster I think. There are only a select few spells I use anyways.

Kensai/Thief: This guy sounds crazy. Coupled with the Kensai's overal badassness, think about once the thief gets Use any Item. Imagine a Kensai with grand mastery in Two Handed weapons using Carsomyr, and wearing some good armor and items. And then comes backstabs, assasination, etc. Sounds like a powerhouse killer.

Specialist Mage: He likes spellcasters a lot. Since I already have a sorcerer, he wants a specialist mage for the extra spell bonuses and being able to learn from scrolls.

I was also considering a shapeshifter werewolf, but I dunno. Please, make any suggestions for characters for a 4 member group please. It doesn't necessarily need to be super-powerful, but if it's effective, doesn't hurt it. :)

Also another quick question, how the hell do you make a Kensai/Thief anyways? I see other people making them, but I dunno. It never lets me dual to it, but then I've always tried it at level 9. Do you have to be a certain level to dual class to a thief? And I always have enough DEX too. Thanks.

I thought you said you didn't want the game to be easy?!? By the end of SoA, the Monk and the Sorcerer are two of the most powerfull classes...and they just happen to be my all-time favorites! :thumb:

IIRC, a dual-class character can't get anywhere near grand mastery in anything. :rolling:

A Kensai starts off with enough points to grand-master in one weapon, and a few more points.

My Kensai/Mage had grand mastery in Katana and 3 points in two weapon style.

OH...ok then, there you go.

IIRC there's a multi-classing/dual-classing guide here at Sorcerer's Place. You should be able to find it with a quick search. :thumb: :rolling:

I hear Monks and Sorcerers are ridiculously powerful. But I'm hoping that with 4 people, I won't progress as fast as with 2.

Would putting it on the hardest difficulty offset the awesomeness of the characters we are choosing?

Yes. On Insane difficulty, it should be... insane. And, if you really want a challenge, add some mods (Ascension, stuff like that). Then having a monk and a sorcerer will not be that easy.

I can't find any sort of guide on dual-classing.

(Not that I even know where to look, but I did try it on the main website's search function.)

The only question I have is on what it takes to make a Kensai Thief. I always put my Strength and Dex to 18, what else does it take, is there a minimum level?

EDIT: I think I figured out why. I always made my guys Lawful good for the reputation bonus. I guess thieves can't be lawful good, am I right?

You feel the game is too easy, which means it is time for you to enjoy Tactics mod and Ascension mod. Play them on core rules, I recommend to.

The dual/multiclass guide is here. It's the sixth one down from the top, labeled Race and Class Listing. The description does mention talk of dual classing. Taken from the guid:

    Ah thanks.

Now I'm seriously contemplating whether I should do an Archer or a Monk. Both sound equally badass, but I'm not sure right now. Any suggestions?

Monk will be more uber later on than an archer will, but IMO archer is funner and more dynamic to play.
