... that does not exist, yet.

I need your help guys. What are the best free hosts out there so I could set up my very own homepage? It's just something I want to do during my free time.

Also, what programs do you usually use for some of the cooler graphics on your website? And where can I get a good guide on getting started on my website?

    Many thanks in advance!

For making (simple) sites, try Netscape composer.
If you want an easy, powerful and fast editing tool, try notepad.

    Screw Geocities. Damn popups.

Go for Freewebsitehosting.net. Haven't had any problems with them sofar, and surely no popups. 2.5 mb of space to work with. (If this is of any use to you depends on how image intensive you wish to make it.)

Don't use editors. The code is then all messed up, completely dis-optimised (let's call it pessimised), very annyoing in debugging and so on. What's even more annoying is that you anyway have to change the code manually, debug it manually etc sooner or later, and the prog & its makers claim much of your credit. I was able to learn HTML completely for most purposes in 2 days and the same for java & java script. Other things like DHTML and CSS styles are not as difficult as they look, honestly.

As for graphics free from copyright danger look for some tiny freeware tools. They're more likely to be made by competent programmers. Save the graphics in the format you can and then convert them (maaany converters are freeware, XP paint saves jpg & gif) if you have some troubles with getting the right editor.

[IMG] Thanks very much guys. I now have a general idea on where to start. Most probably I'm gonna sign up with Angelfire. Look out for my very own website some time, coming to a computer screen near you.

I said for the easy way use Netscape Composer.
    The useful way:
    Notepad or ConTEXT.

Do NOT use those "shareware html editors". Or you will be cursed with popups. And other ads.

when i first got on the net, i signed up with Madasafish.com. Don't know if they are still going but they gave about 10mb of space for designing your own page.
