[IMG] As the topic says: monsters you all hate most and why? I hate skeletons because arrows do little damage to them, they usually come in a bunch and they are accurate as hell with longbows, throwing daggers & darts.

Sirines. The charm spells combined with that damnable humming.

Kobolds, you know where to find never ending hordes of these b@st@rds. Xvarts... kinda cute. Doppelgangers on the other hand (in Durlag's Tower) are annoying, especially if you find yourself trapped in a room full of them, not to mention a room filled with area effect traps... damnable. And last, the knight thing guarding Durlag's Tower, the one with the burning sword (excuse me if I've forgotten what they're called, it's been ages since I last played BG)... always got killed by this guy X(.

I played the game for such a short time, yet I hated Sirines. They are annoying. Deadly. And annoying again.

Best tactic I found so far, casting multiple webs as soon as they are seen, and shotting them to death with bows from afar. This works even when they are improved invisible! :thumb:

Other than that, I fought one lesser Basilisk in a random encounter. Nothing special, it was. Do they really petrify their victims? By gaze attack? How?

I'm undecided. For me it's either Sirenes or Kobold Commandos. Both can make me do reloads...

I agree kobold commandos are special. They manage to kill Khalid even when he wears medium shield+1, plate mail, and boots of avoidance for a whopping -5 AC vs missiles. Though when you cast a sleep, the battle is over:and you loot tons of arrows of fire!

I could not kill those damnable Ochre Jellies though. They have MR and immunity to ranged weapons. A killer combo for low level parties who rely heavily on magic and ranged attacks. (like mine! Sniff. )

At range, they shoot out their gaze attack at you instead of moving or attacking; at close range they will sometimes switch to a regular attack and sometimes just keep shooting their gaze at you. You get a save when it hits, and if you fail you're stoned. The End.

If you use protection against petrification they do hardly any physical damage, very easy to mop up. I find battle horror's quite annoying as you can encounter them with a young party and they deal out horrible amounts of damage while being tough to hit, I usually have to use valuable wand charges to take them down.

I despise dopplegangers. The noises that they make send shivers down my spine, and they made the game really confusing when I played it for the first time, what with taking the forms of Elminster, Gorion, and Tethoril.

What about the monster that comes after you at the archeological site, Doomsayer or something like that?

That is one tough MoFo. I imagine even toward the end of the game, that's a tough encounter. I tried it once...one word. Reload.

I would say basilisks. I find sirenes too easy as I constantly fight them to gain experience. Sure, the dire charm sucks but keep pounding them until they fail to cast the spell and they will fall easy.

Yeh, I'd have to go with basilisks.

That said, I have pretty unpleasent memories of Battle Horrors. When I first played, I ended up bumping into them at Durlag's Tower only a couple of hours into the game, and by then I hadn't grasped the rules sufficiently to know to use Entangle. It didn't go well.

And then there was the time I didn't think to kill the cultists surrounding the Aec'Letec, so I ended up having to fight the demon itself a dozen times. Sigh.

I don't think I'm cut out for these games. :)
