What do you people from other countries besides America (and in America, if you care) think about the recent events to do with Afghanistan and the World Trade Center towers, as well as the havoc in the Middle East?

Because I live in America, all I ever hear about anymore is "Israel and Palestine: at it again!!!" and "How can we stop the next 9/11?" and "Geography of the Middle East". I really don't have an opinion yet...it's nonfiction...so what about you people? How have other countries reacted to those happenings?

 

Well, 9/11 was quite an event, even if it has been overemphasized in America. (I live in America, but I'm not exactly too patriotic) I mean, look at the blowing up of the Maine, the Lusitana(sp), or Pearl Harbor. Each one killed relatively few (compared to the war that followed), but triggered the U.S. involvement in World Wars. Why shouldn't 9/11 involve the U.S. more in the jihad against western culture? The only difference between 9/11 and the previous events is that everyone before knew there was a war going on; America was simply uninvolved (directly, anyways). However, before 9/11, many Americans were unaware of Osama bin Laden, or even the concept of jihad.

However. . . I really think that the U.S. took things too far from being against terorism to making war on Afghanistan. Sure, bin Laden was hiding there and associating with the Taliban, but I still think that America, looking for someone to blame the whole thing on, went too far and too rashly.

As for if anyone cares, I suppose 9/11 isn't really on most people's mind every day, but practically everyone is more aware of terrorism. Overseas, people will know about 9/11-related events, but they're probably not caring about it that much anymore. Things will probably revert back soon enough. Fifty years from now, students will learn about two planes crashing into the WTC, but it'll be like the significance of Pearl Harbor for this generation. As for terrorism, we'll never be able to eradicate its threat , as hard as we try. However, 9/11 has made the U.S. more opposed to Palestinian extremists and suicide bombers. They've begun to, for some reason, link those people with "real" terrorists. (i.e., people in a jihad, not trying to reclaim their land back)

All in all, 9/11 has made the U.S. more alert on Islamic extremism, from jihad to Palestine.

It has a LOT of attention in Denmark. Europe. The small stretch of land in northern Germany.

Else what to say, that hasn't been said... Well if I had my crystall ball of future events I could rant on too. But I haven't.

I can understand the "Better safe than sorry" attitude Bush leads. The american military or anyone for that matter. This isn't a game. He can't reload if he messes up, can he? And it isn't Hollywood. In simplicity nonfiction is frightening.

So of course "we" have reacted defensive/protective too like US and any other *western country*.

 

I'm an American, and I don't mean to sound hypocritical, or come across as an idiot, but:

I think this is beating a sufficiently dead, mutilated, and decaying horse.

 

Can't we just be finished with this whole "11th of September" thing?

 

How to stop the chaos down there, well it's a bit hard since the united nations put the problem down there 50 years ago.. of course you could go all the way back to moses to find the origin of the problem, but that may be a bit far fetched these days..

You need to force both parts to sign a peace treaty. To me there's no difference between the Israelies(sp?) and Palestines since they are both equally good at creating the problem. Boycot of weapons and trade should be a good way to force them, but the US has to take major steps in this process. If the US don't act, not much will happen I fear. And not in the terms of war.

as for the 11th september, most people don't think of it here. Done is done, past is past.. get on with life...

I only live an hour and a half from NYC and heard a fighter jet go over my house that morning before I even knew what was going on. If I lived father away or in another country I would not be as concered as I was. Now that the Middle East has fired up, it took the edge off 911 and I can get my life back together

We'll let Europe and most of North America stay basically the same, there are a few upstarts, but there's always a bad apple. But Asia, Middle East, and Africa - you all need new mission statements...and maybe a basketball team. But going forward all territory disputes will be resolved arm wrestling matches.

In the alternative...I think the US should make a concentrated effort to terraform and colonize Mars...Then we could move away and the rest of the world could quit whining about how evil/stupid/arrogant we are.

 

...sounds like a bloody good idea to me...

I also like Lokken's idea "force both sides to sign a peace treaty" - ah yes! then every one will be happy... sheesh

I dont understand this stuff. Why cant their just be world peace? :sigh: Theirs a lot I want to say but their my own oppions and I'm not going to get in to any flame wars with any one.

As long as there's organized religion and national boundaries, we're going to be killing one another. Hate to say it, but it's true. Oh yeah, I forgot racism and ethnicity and variations in wealth, education, natural resources, and name brand sneakers, etc...etc...

Anyway. Yeah Lets force them to have peace. Let us take away all their weapons and force them to live in peace and harmony ever after. Heck lets do it with all the world. Happy Happy joy joy.

Get real people. Humans can't make eternal peace. At least not when we are 6 billion individuals crammed behind each our wall of prejudice, religion, beliefs and politics.

Good? bad?.. well doesn't matter. USA is the guy with the biggest gun.

Well I just don't think it is possible to have peace in the middle east without harmony. Unless USA wants to play a permanent brute role down there and make a *tyrant harmony*. Could work of course.

BTW: "Discussed to death".. "Nice" pun Tal (intended or not) considering the Israeli and Palestinian turmoil. Sorry, that was morphid humour.

Nah you couldn't do that, Britain Germany and France united makes a WAY larger military than US, let alone the whole of the world.
Though i wouldn't mind being ruled by the US (as long as Bush wasn't in charge) they might sort out the bloody trains and hospitals over hear(UK).
And about the twin towers, must admit it shook me up, even made me start hating Islam for a while. But then all the governments went crazy and old us it was just the extremist muslims, though i was watching the TV and it seems a large majority of Arabs hate US,UK and Germany, (probably because they are just jealous though.) Ah but i don't really think about it anymore, though i do agree whole heartidly with invading Afghanistan. I know they say it's JUST extremist but, it seems that there are a bloody lot of them. And we all know what happens when someone upsets the USA and her allies

 

hehe... I'll just presume that whole USA ruling the world thing was a joke. And if not then you really need to open your eyes...

Seriously though, noone should rule the whole world, where's the fun if we're all the same? Also, I'm not going to state my opinion on the afghanistan situation, as although it's not controversial as such somebody's going to diagree.

Tis sad, but tis the honest to God truth. Pun intended.

As long as the human being is capable of hatred, anguish, pain, prejudices, arrogance, and fear------there will be war. And to be honest, it does not matter where it stems from. Whether it be a war that has been going on since the beginning of time, such as that with Israel, or whether it is newly created do to some other issue or circumstance.

And my dear friends, we are ALL capable of hatred, anguish, pain, prejudices, arrogance, and fear---no matter how you speak, what you look like, or where you came from-----given the right circumstances.
