I apologize in head of time because im going to share my views on Religon.

In my opinion Religon does nothing but cause fights and wars. For instence Irsali and Palistine have been fighting for 3000 years becuase there religons differ and they both want jerulsum or something(sorry cant spell only 16. Christians piss me off the most there whoke purpose in llife is to convert non christains. They are diseaving and iggnorant. I have recently went to a Christian Club called Impact in Kenosha, Wisconsisn. I thought it would be interesting to learn more about the religon and also to make fun of the Christian Fanatics. It is basically a cult preying on teenager to convert them. This is held at a church called Assembly og God. This church required you to be a member and to be a member you have to give a copy if you tax forms and you have to give 10% of your pay check a year so you can worship Jesus. This club does nothing other than sing songs to brain wash the weak minded. Christains refuse to believe in science when it comes to evolution or on how the world was brought to be. They ignore scientific proof, we have found old skulls showing shape changes and we have found artifacts to prove that we evolved from apes. Christains ruin happy l;ives by converting people they will fly thousands of miles just to convert a small African Tribe. They promise people that God will bring them wealth and happyness. They also that the "Lord" when someone is cured of an illness but they dont stop to think that the docter cured them. Some exremist wont go tot he doctir they think God will heak there wounds. So they will watch a 12 year old die of Juvenille Diabetes when all he needs is a simple shot. The bible aslo talks about imposible thing happining. For insinst Adam and Eve they were teh first 2 people on earth. They would have had to inbreed to expand the population. We all know what happens to animals when they Inbreed right? Well it is the same way with humans. CHristians believe we are more special that animals and that we are more important. But we are no different we are very closly related to them especialy apes. We do nothing more but waiste rescources and kill off other animals. Humans will be there own downfall. Have you also Religon differs from region to region. India is Hindu and China is Budddist (i think i may be wrong), Greek had many gods. Aztecs and Native Americans all believed in multiple Gods. When Christofer Colombus first discovered North America( GOT LOST LIKE AN IDIOT) he found Native Americans who could be easily converted so he did and he thought they would make lovley slaves as well. He had to bring something back because he diod not have spices from India. When he left his Chrostain sailers murdered, and Raped the local Indians(Christofers name for them. It aslo makes me mad when i see a chinese or a Hinmdu convert to Christian because Christians think it is there right to Brain wash people into believeing a different religon that may not be right what is Buddist or Musslim or Hindu was the right religon. Cathlics are no better there in it for the noney the Pope has his own damn Country abd the all the Priest are child malestures. The bible is full of fairy tales like Nohas Arch. It soposadly fit 2 of every animal. It even says in the bible that the the Arch was only 300 cubits long and like 200 wide( a cubit is only about 2 feet) If you confront any Christain they will say God can do anything he is the all mighty lord who can make the impossible be possible, than they will quote from the Fairy Tale book(bible) about what John 11:24 says. Plus the new Testament was written 20-30 years after Jesus died. The Authors went around asking people who walked with jesus what jesus did and what he was like. I ask a Christian Fanatic how do you know the bible is True of it was written from People Stories that may or may not be True. Everyones Perspective is different in a situation. The Christian said that an Angel came to all the witnesses and helped them rember what exactly happened. See there is no way to Argue with them because they use quotes from the bible to back them up when the Bible it self is in Question. I dont have a problem with most religons i feel everyone has the right to worship whom they choose but i hate Religons that there sole purpose in life is to convert other people.

Im sorry if i have offended anybody for what i wrote ut i warnes ya

Your topic could be both interesting and challenging, but PLEASE copy it to MS word or some such, correct the grammar and spelling and BREAK it up! Use paragraphs. Then paste it back.

It's not possible to read that lot coherently.

[IMG] Believe what you want, think what you want, but if you say Christians are deceiving, than you know nothing of deception.

First off you have to realize that not all Churches require you to give them a copy of your tax forms. This is the first time I have ever heard of such nonsense. Not all Churches require you to be members. I have been visiting a Church for the past few years in college, and never once has anyone pressured me to be a member. Never once has anyone pressured me to tithe! And I participate in Communion. Every other church I have been to has been the same. So what you are doing is taking the actions of a few misguided people and blowing them up to represent all Christians.

As for all Christians want to do is convert, did it occur to you that we believe in heaven and hell, and we honestly don't want anyone to have to end up in hell.

Science may seem to have all the answers. Why then have we not figured out a way to stop from dying? (A gross exageration for sure, but if Science is almighty and the end all and be all for explaining everything, well it needs to get in gear. There is much to be learned.) Science has only started majorly developing in the last few hundred years. Did it ever occur to you that we may be wrong in some places. Science is in constant motion, research is still being done...nothing is set in stone.

So if I am wrong, and all my Christian beliefs are wrong because I relied on faith and recognized the fact that my little human mind might just possible not know some important details that would make a lot of illogical events actually very very logical, then what? What do I loose? Not much.

But if I am right, what did I have the chance to loose? Everything.

So what would you put a gamble on? Oh say 70-80 years of life? Or eternity?

You don't even have to be a scientist to figure out which is the bigger risk...

The Lord cameth unto me and said "Take this dictionary for it is my body" and I took it, and it was good. The Lord pointed me at a program and said "Take this spell checker, for it is my blood" and I took it within my text, and it was good.

    Praise the Lord. Halleluja.

hahaha Damona your funny. True i have mispelled alot of words and you could say that my Grammer wasnt perfect but it was 3:00 a.m when i wrote it so i didnt feel like proof reading it. I respect all religons except for those who convert non christians. It is my belief that you should leave them alone there happy the way they are. Most were typo

People have a problem trying to change people. People think that if you dont like a certain trait of a person you change them to the way you like them to be.

As for the science part, science has done amaziong things not god. If god saved lives than why did so many people die before pennysilan(another mispelling but deal with it) Science has deveolped ways to grow skin from the foreskin of a baby. This will save many lives that were exposed to fire. We are not going to figure a way to live forever in 200 years but we now undertand why we do die. We used to think that out body would die from wear and tear, but this is not true anymore we die because cells divide slow or completely stop. Sorry i am talking about dieing from old age.

No your right not all churches require you to give them 10% of your paycheck. There are churches that will excommunicate you if you do not attend church on a regular basis. They also make you think that you have to got o church to worhship, i believe you can worship him anywhere since he is everywhere right?. Have you noticed that the bible seems like Homer has written it. If christaion is the right religon than do all the aztecs, Incas, Mayans, Native Americans, Greeks, India, and also ancient china go to hell because they were never exposed to the Cristian way of life.

Did you ever stop to wonder that people converted because they felt they would be happier because they converted?

Off topic sure, but I am saddened for my country. A 16 year old (16!) whose grammar and spelling is atrocious, not only couldn't care less about his deficiency, but tells others to deal with it. Very sad.

    No, no. You misunderstand, BTA.

"16" was a typo. He meant to type "I'm only 6."

Well, I think that the argument against many forms of proselytizing could be made more diplomatically than it has been here but buried somewhere there is a grain of truth. I understand that some Christians believe that by converting the non-believers they are saving their souls but the manner in which it is done is often despicable. For example, making access to food or shelter contingent upon church attendance -- don't tell me it doesn't happen, I've travelled throughout Africa and South America and I've seen it happen.

The fact is that most people grow up to follow the religious faith in which they were raised. There is very little questioning of that faith. It is no accident that most Christians had Christian parents, that most Jews had Jewish parents (I speak of Judaism in the religous sense here), most Muslims have Muslim parents, most Buddhitsts have Buddhist parents etc. So, given that the overwhelming majority of people believe what they've been told to believe, usually with little questioning, it is easy to see why conversion is difficult. It is then easy to see why many attempts at conversion are more akin to attempts at coercion -- they resort to what I consider despicable means because other means fail.

As far as religon (and this seems to be a thread on Christianity contrary to the broader title) being incompatible with science, that is a gross oversimplification. Many Christians have no difficulty saying that the Bible should not be interpreted literally and therefore concepts such as evolution are compatible with creationism. There are of course many that cling to the notion that you can determine the age of the world by adding up the ages of the people in the Bible. What about dinosaurs, why aren't they mentioned in the Bible then? There weren't any they say. Well, what about these bones that date millions of years ago? Depending on who you ask they were put there by Satan to trick us or by God to test us. Now then, to me that is just ridiculous but to each her own I suppose.

To say that "Catholics are just in it for the money" has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a long time. As a non-Catholic, I will say that the Catholic Church has impressed me as being the most open and reasonable of all the major Christian religions. The comment that all Catholic Priests are child "malestures" (French I take it) which I take means molesters is almost so ridiculous that it is difficult to even comment on it. If someone is going to say every Catholic Priest engages in the despicable molestation because a few do is no different from saying that all Americans engage in molestation because the priests involved in the scandal were American -- logical fallacy at its finest. Oh, and the Pope doesn't have his own nation by the way, last I checked he was in the Vatican and Italy is being governed by some whacked out fascist.

Now, Christianity, like other religions, is plagued with internal inconsistencies. There are multiple accounts of the creation which are not identical. Which account is true if you are a literalist? There are at least two accounts of the story of Noah's Arc -- see, Noah was making sacrafices aboard that boat of his and if he only brought 2 of each animal with him he was destroying species by the score (explains the Unicorn I suppose.) Someone must have thought about this at some point and in the later Noah story he brought more animals with him. Christianity has to deal with the fact that there is this 3 in 1 idea going on. So, 3=1? The logical problems there are readily apparent and they've driven some of the great Christian philosophers like Kierkegaard to admit that Christianity is illogical (thus the importance and difficulty of faith says the great Danish Christian thinker.)

These are of course just a few examples of some of the internal difficulties Christianity must contend with. However, the original post went well beyond pointing them out and asking about them and deginerated into an attack of religon (and not a very well thought out one at that.) Many of the objections in the original post regarding religion were poorly thought out stereotypes of rather frightening type. It can be fun to discuss religon with open minded people but it's not so much fun to discuss it with close minded people.

Ahahahaha! Yes i'm sure an omnipotent all-knowing entity capable of creating entire universes is going to fooled by your half hearted religious beleifs trying to scam your way into Heaven

    Genius

The big religions when looked upon from a neutral, objective point of view are as absurd as the monkey worshippers you see on the discovery channel and I hold followers of them in the same regard. Still even if i'm critical of religion I don't let it affect me, as long as a believer doesn't try and force his views on to me thats fine.

I do agree religion has been used as justification for countless evils and little good has come out of it, but even if it was abolished or never existed i'm sure humans would have found something else to fight about sadly.

EDIT- Hey this is my first post and its been sucked into the gaping maw of religion! Help, help i'm being repressed!!

It's not true about inbreeding, there is such a thing as inbreeding depression, but that can be overcome with time. there is a breed of cows that is almost 100% inbred, which suffer no ill effects. Also, the Pharoahs used to practice Brother/Sister inbreeding, yet were able to continue a pedigree for several thousand years.

(sorry, obviously this has nothing to do with religion... :))

(PS - the Vatican is a seperate country - it is exactly one mile square, and has its own laws, taxes etc :)) (me smart alec!)

I dabble in pretty much all of the major religion (religons?) :p just to cover my bases... :spin:

Just kidding - I'm more spiritual than religious I suppose - whatever that means. I may even be slightly pagan...Although not the pagan devil worshiping way christians use it. For the unenlightened, the word pagan comes from a latin term "paganos" which meant rural or countryside.

Pagans were those simple folk in the Roman Empire during the spread of christianity who lived in the countryside away from the Roman roads which helped spread christianity throughout the empire...Which angered the gods and ultimately brought about the Roman Empire's destruction, sadly. Since it took longer for christianity to seep into the rural areas - those last to be converted were called pagans.

    See! You learned something today!

There are some funny people on the boards saying im 6 but im not going to spend any more time than i have to to proof read just for your enjoyment. It takes long enough to type all this.]

In medieval timea the Cathloc church was rich they financed the countries wars.
More than a couple priest touched little boys, alot did. You are right this was not though out at all. Again they are my opinions

Christopher you do have a good point about the inbreeding thing. But doesnt it say in the bible that inbreedng is wrong? I do know that most of the time Inbreeding does mess a person up. That is why when animal have babies in the wild the babies will go far away from home when grown up so there will be a less chance of inbreeding

Animal dispersal is probably more to do with kinship theory than with inbreeding. If males (for eg) compete with one another, then it is better for them to disperse than to hang out together - since then they will be competing with (and lowering the fitness of) non kin, rather than their relatives...

I don't know what it says in the bible, but you don't like the bible, or religon (sic) anyway :)

Try typing in a WP package, then copy it over. It would aid your spelling and grammar no end since the red and green lines are hard to ignore! Failing that you could use the spell-checker provided on the boards. See the link at the top? Just 2 steps to the right of the forum rules......

I think I'm missing the point regarding in-breading, since afaik that's not a religious thing, just a tradition in certain parts. (Any Red Necks here?):D
