Too Many Humans!

Discussion in 'Baldur's Gate (Classic)' started by mojo_202, Mar 30, 2001.

[IMG] Is it just me, or are there too many Humans
in Baldur's Gate. (The entire game, not the
city) I currently play a dwarf in this, the 10th or 11th time I've restarted, and I notice that most of the NPCs are human. This bothers me, I beleive that the other races should be better represented. Do others agree?

I've found all of the NPCs that can join your party, using the walkthrough on sorcerers.net of course, and all of the dwarves, gnomes, and halflings are either evil, or idiots. I don't count elves because elves are weak.

Really? I never noticed. Maybe that's because short people terrify me and I try to stay away from them as much as possible. Elves weak? How DARE you! Why don't you go and call me a paladin while you are at it? Grrrr...

You stinkin Paladin, why I oughta....oh, heh, sorry bout that. Yeah they are under represented. I agree. But the halflings do have their own villiage, and they are well represented in BG2. But Dwarves haven't been well represented in any of the BG games. Hell, even the gnomes had a settlement in BG2, not to mention what all the elves had. Looks like the dwarves are just out in the cold.

Duh... Of all the races in Fearun, the biggest group is the race of humans to it isn't a strange thing that there are so many humans in BG.

[IMG] Not to mention you constantly travel through Human territory, and the fact that other races aren't nearly as adventurous as Humans are, ergo very unlikely to join a random band of rabble.

And Elves really aren't weak, mojo, on the contrary. They can kick human buts any day of the week.

[IMG] Be patient, maybe the next BG isn't BG3 but BG_CE made for all the hand-held heroes. :D

    [IMG] Lord Bane,
You think elves are strong because they can kick a humans butt? Any race can kick a humans butt, humans are the worst of all of the races.

In the words of Edwin, of D&D the Movie,
"You need a big 200 pound dwarven woman with a beard you can hang on to." ;)

Ok, I'll grant you that. But still, in any one-on-one I'd always put my money on the pointy ears :)

Also in the classic RPG sense, the Elven and Dwarven races are old and ancient. More importantly they are 'diminishing' races. As most games, mythology books and related fantasy based concepts always paint the picture of 'humans' flourishing and ruling all in their path. While all the other ancient races are dying off. No doubt based on the megalomaniac position of… us real life/real world humans.

However some great discussion on this subject happened on this board some months back. It would be great to see… Giant lands and Clans, Orc villages and Clans, Troll caverns and tribes, etc.

Of course Dwarven Clans as well… would be great. Dwarves of the Hills, Dwarves of the Mountains etc. I think BG II did a great job with the Drow and a barely passable job with the Elves of Suldenessar (Wood Elves??? I can’t recall any mention of the specific Elf type) .

If you recall however there was a presence of Elven and Dwarven ruins in BG I/TOSC and IWD.

Ruins, yes but no dwarf cities full of forges and furnaces and, and, and other cool things with lots of metal and fire. BG2 seemed very elf-centric, and Faerun seems generally human centric (I'd have used homo as in homo sapiens but some peole might have got the wrong idea). But lets see some dwarves at home who aren't dead. Ye can keep yer pointy eared prancin'. Beards are where it's at!

A joke, every race has it's adv. and disadv.
And humans. Read Lord of the Rings and you'll know why there are so many humans. They simply destroy other races! I hate 'em!

Humans are way over rated! Though I perfere them over other races, it still bothers me that the dwarves(magior race in ND&D) dont appear more. I'm suprised that theirs not a whole under ground city under all of sward coast. Think about it, wouldn't it be sweet to have a city that would lead to any area on the map just by taking walking a little under ground. I mean whats a little no sun light for a few days?

I think Half-elves (or rogue modrons, but that isnt relevant, now is it?) are the best race; they get the best of both worlds, thay have the adventuring spirit of humans and the refinement of elves. I always play 'em (well nearly always). Then again the worst race is also a crossbreed; the Half-orc. I dont like 'em because i KILL monsters, i dont play with them.
