[IMG] This is a song by a Swedish poet/author/musician named Björn Afzelius. I have translated it as best as I could but I am sure it has lost quite a bit of its feeling but the geist of it is still there. This song touches me because it is always important. The song applies to large parts of the world today. And as I am a big fan of people waking up and looking around, thinking for themselves and not letting themselves by guided by others.

    The choice by Björn Afzelius

The seeds slowly grow below the surface
They like it where it is moist, dark and cold
First when the sprouts starts to be visible
you can see that there are weeds everywhere
    But if you look away,
    nothing hears, nothing sees
    How then do you know?
Cause if you hear nothing, there are nothing?
And what you don't see, surely don't exist.

In March, you still have time.
You can take it before the buds have burst.
But if you let it stand,
    until summer has passed,
it finally grows over your head.

    Today, the racists take one.
    Tomorrow maybe they take two.
France they took with a blitz.
Who knows when they come after you?

    Wake up! Brace yourself!
    Start looking around!
Don't be one of them that just stands there then,
and says: I didn't know anything!

Everyday new threats against our lives are born.
Every morning, the missiles stand ready.
In the darkness where we stand with eyes closed
    they are building for war.
How can we fight if we don't realize the danger?

Today you have a job and a salary.
Tomorrow you may be laid off.
The millions that starve in the world outside
are standing just a little lower in the same pit.

    Wake up!

Most go with the flow if possible.
Most just want peace and quiet.
But if fascism comes sneaking back,
it is you and I who have to withstand it.

    The weeds grow and flourishes.
    So sharpen your knife.
If you let it spread over the world with the wind
you will pay for it with your life.

    Wake up! Start looking around!
    Brace yourself!
So you can tell your kids when they ask you,
that you were one of them that stood against it.

    Metallica's 'Master of Puppets'

Nihilism, aggression and domination over others.

Still one of my favorite songs ever.

Will Smith's version of Just The Two Of Us.
That song is still of great help in dealing with the depression of missing my son

Three Little Birds by Bob Marley.

    "Don't worry 'bout a thing
Cause every little thing is gonna be alright now"

    also Blackbird by The Beatles

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
    All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arrive"

I also have to say that a lot of Cat Stevens songs before he unbecame Cat Stevens, touch me deeply. At least he found what he was looking for.

Shura! Another Rancid fan I see. My favorite song by them is The Wars End from the album ...And out come the wolves, but the song that really touches me is Red Hot Moon (also by rancid).

It's about a girl named Casey who didn't fit in and who couldn't understand life. The most touching line (and I get chills just thinking about it) is, "but when we found her in the little league park,
in the dugout it was cold in the dark.
No one knew why she wouldn’t wake up,
I think she finally made it back home.

    I really love that line.

    Radiohead
    OK Computer

    Wake
    From your sleep
    The drying of your tears
    Today we escape
    We escape
    Pack
    And get dressed
    Before your father hears us
    Before all hell breaks loose
    Breathe, keep breathing
    Don't lose your nerve
    Breathe, keep breathing
    I can't do this alone
Sing us a song, a song to keep us warm
    There's such a chill, such a chill

    And You can laugh
    A spineless laugh
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you
    And now we are one
    In everlasting peace
We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke

    Beverly Knight. Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.

And in my life there's a love I put aside, cause I was busy loving something else

So for every little thing you hold on to, you've got to let something else go

Now " Shoulda woulda coulda," means I'm out of time
Coz "Shoulda woulda coulda", can't change your mind
And I wonder, wonder, wonder what I'm gonna do
"Shoulda woulda coulda" are the last words of a fool

Fools Gold from Stone Roses i don't know why but everytime i hear this i get a very strange feeling. Massive Attack "Unfinished sympathy" everytime i hear this i remember my first girlfriend, which sadly i have never been able to put her behind. And a greek band Stereo Nova has written a song "Astralon" which makes me very sad everytime i hear it. Maybe i can translate and post it here later.

I’m a big fan of the lyrics of Pink Floyd. One of, in my opinion, their most moving songs is from their album “Final Cut”, and is titled “The Gunner’s Dream”. It’s about what the people who fought in WWII (and, for that matter, any war) thought they were fighting for. Here’s an excerpt:

A place to stay, enough to eat,
Somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street.
Where you can speak out loud about your doubts and fears,
And what's more no-one ever disappears,
You never hear their standard issue kicking in your door.
You can relax on both sides of the tracks,
And maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control,
And everyone has recourse to the law,
And no-one kills the children anymore.

the ex-Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra made a new band called LARD. Their songs are deep, yet hilarious. My favorite line from "The power of Lard" is...

Every time I take a crap it's a cosmic expierience.

    and

Waiter, waiter, there's a terrorist in my soup.

Metallica - To Live is To Die

When a man lies he murders some part of the world.
These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives.
All this I cannot bear to witness any longer
Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation take me home.
