I recently bought NWN and want to play it multiplayer on a home network. This is not going the way I planned.

In the main menu of NWN I press multiplayer. It now asks for a player name and password. I filled in some things, because I´ve read it doesn´t matter what you fill in, if you are not connected to the internet. In the next menu I press New. Strangly enough, I didn´t see an option if you want to play it on the internet or on lan. Anyway, I filled in all the fields as I liked it and told the machine I want to play Chapter 1 of the official campaign. In the next menu I have to choose between 'Make New Character' and 'Choose Premade Character'. Because I already played the prologue singleplayer and already have a level three character, I want to play the rest of the game with this character. So, I click 'Choose Premade Character' (or something simular). The game now says:
    Attempting to find server
    Connection to server has failed
    Server not responding (Timed Out)

Is it trying to connect to the internet? If the answer to that question is yes, then why do you need an internet connection to play it multiplayer on a lan and why does it need to connect to the internet to load my character, I saved it on my own computer. If the answer to the first question is no, than what do I have to do to play in multiplayer?

Can anyone help me with this?

No, you should not need to be connected to the Internet to play a LAN game. I just tested it now. After the "authenticating username" bit, it gave me a message saying it could not log in to the Master Server and that some multiplayer games may not be available. I selected "Create New LAN Game," chose my module and character and was up and running in no time.

With the "authenticating username" I asume you mean the player login menu. After that menu, I get another menu with these buttons:
    New
    Load
    Join Internet Game
    Join Lan Game

I can not select "Create New LAN Game" anywhere.

Has this something to do with different versions of the game? I live in Holland, so I asume I bought the North-European version (or something like that) in the store. I downloaded no patches or other things for NWN.

I hope I have given enough info on my problem (now all I need is the solution).

In the options that you listed, I think that
"New" is the option that you want in order to
create a new LAN game. I know that when I
downloaded the latest patch (1.29), the options on
the Multiplayer menu changed a bit. I am located
in the US, so our versions may vary somewhat.

    My Multiplayer menu now has:

    New Internet/LAN Game
    Load Internet/LAN Game
    Join Internet Game
    Join LAN Game
