Level 20 XpCap

    [​IMG] What a pitty that it stop by Level 20. I played the game throug one and hit the cap just after ending chapter three. It's not so much fun if no more levels to come. Does anyone know something about a Cap remover? Thats pretty difficult I guess, since they took no Epic classes in. In the toolset all NPC's may advance to level 40 strange hm?

    I'd love it if there was a way to get round that bloody level cap. Then again, getting passed level 20 is going to be an epic feat in itself. If and when Bioware releases an expansion implementing the epic level rules they will have to include monsters that will be epic in scope (I don't think that the ancient red dragon is as powerful as they get, anyone know this for certain?)

    The Monster Manual for third edition rules and the Deities and Demigods books do include creatures tougher than the ancient red dragon, although the red dragon is certainly one of the toughest that isn't a god.

    Anyway, it was stated in the other thread that the Epic Level handbook was not around when NWN was created, therefore Bioware would have to make up their own rules if they wanted to implement this. Anyway, everyone that wants to get past the cap will have to buy the (possible) expansion. It's a good way of doing things from a D&D gamer's standpoint and a business standpoint.

    Why does everyone want to get rid of the cap? They say if you can't level up anymore it's not fun, but if you are to high of leveled the game is not a challenge and how is that fun?

    Blame it on different playing styles Abyss. Some, like us, enjoy challenge in a game, others like simply blasting their way through. There's no right or wrong way to play the game, just whatever makes it fun for you I guess.

    Yes, it's all about play style. Among my friends and I we all have different perspectives about the level cap both in NWN and in regular pen and paper. I'm more of a power gamer vs. one of my friends who is in to more role playing. I agree that it's about personal preference.

    From my point of view it ist simple. Playing a computer RPG is half leveling up and half enjoying the story with all its god and bad moments. Taken one of either away, means hey I am mid Chapter 3 and don't get levels anymore...great, means to half the fun. i played it through anyway, because I whanted to know how it ends, but it's like Diablo from that point. The only god thing is getting items, past that ist's like reading a book. Improving your character ist, for me, half the fun. With PnP it is another story.

    I don't comparing NWN to Diablo II is quite fair. Diablo II is kill, kill, kill, and a bit of story here and there just to give pause to the killing. NWN actually has a story and a good one, can't say the same for Diablo II.

    I agree. Not saying that improving you character isn't fun, but I enjoy the story a lot more.

    I Didn't ment to set NWN to the same leage then Diablo II. It's just that I had such a great feeling while playing NWN that it hurt a lot to hit the cap so early. I would had no problem hitting it while playing chapter 4, but bevor even finishing the 3rd one. I allways hated systems with a dead end like that. There may be a point where no more spells can be learned or there is nothing beyond the mastery of all weapons, but to set such a hard line with the Cap gives me the creep. Well the WHY is sure, but I hope for a Module, some kind of Capkill or anything like it. I really like NWN, Engine, the Musik, the Characters and the story too. I simply don't whant the end at Lvl 20. That's all. But I have problems all the time with the games my heart is beating for. That's why I still did not start Morrowind.

    If there was no Exp. Cap you wouldn't be able to get much past it anyway.

    You don't hear much about level 20+ characters in AD&D. I feel the level cap was a good idea.

    [​IMG] actuelly i've played AD&D for many many years although i havn't played in a long time and haven't nor do i ever intend to play pen and paper 3rd addition rules (cuase they are lame) however in the original 1st addition you could get lev 99 chars and i even had official moduals for playing that level of char. :D
    granted once you get up past lev 30-40 it's hard to DM those crazy chars :lol:
    caping at lev 20 to me seems stupid.
    specially when you can max out before you even reach the end of the game.

    actuelly what they need to do is just increase the amount of xp you need to level up. ie instead of having riduclusly low xp required for lev 20 it should be more like it was in 2nd or 1st addition
    where you need like 3,000,000-3,750,000 exp points for level 20 (depending on class)
    instead of this BS 190,000 or whatever it is in 3rd addition.
    then you wouldn't have to worry about people complaining about the level cap because it would take a long time to reach it!

    so Neverwinter would actuelly leave you at like lev 9 or something when you are finished it. (monster toughness adjusted ofcourse or they could make the game longer so you are higher level)

    Syrel, if that was done, people would be complaining that the xp table is not the same as what is actually found in 3e D&D, which the game is based on.

    People were not expected to do every single sub-quest. If you do some of them and the main story quest, you won't max out until the end of the game.

    In my opinion, combat is too quick and therefore your character levels up too quick as well. You reach the cap in no time.

    Hmm, when I finished NWN the first and only time my xchar was lvl-18 - and he leveled up to lvl-19 right after killing Morag ... and I don't really think I missed a lot. On the other hand he was vastly superior to any enemy he met after reaching lvl-12.

    Maybe that's the bane of the XP system: You make your char stronger and are smart in equiping and develop your char - and get punished because your enemies are considered easier then, resulting in you getting less xp for your easier fights. Odd.

    However, the really silly thing about the XP thing is that exceptional enemies like the great red wyrm deliver at something like 300-something xp - not much more than a dire-bear on a lower level. Actually I would expect something extraordionary for extraordinary enemies - maybe a symbolical 450 or so ... oh well. :toofar:

    But that's the whole point. The great red wyrm is not so extraordinary for how powerful you are. It was probably just as easy (if not easier :) )to kill as that dire bear you killed on that lower level.

    Yeah, there really isn't any real difference between giving you 300xp out of 3000 you need to advance and giving you 60000 out of 600000 needed to advance. So the 3e rules just cut things down.

    Now, if you had killed Klauth with the same character you killed the direbear with (ie same level and equipment), then you might notice a bit of xp difference!

    [​IMG] I don't think anyone could have more trouble with a dire boar then with an ancient red dragon :p
    my char on lev 3-4 had a lot less trouble with a dire boar then i did at lev 19 vs the red dragon and i got about the same xp.

    the ancient red dragon should definitly be worth more xp no matter what level you are.
    and many things like a dire boar should be worth less xp ;)
