What a glitchy game!

[IMG] Is it just me, or is IWD a MUCH more glitchy game than BG1? I ran BG at least three times without any real problems. But I'm now on chapter 3 of my second game of IWD, and both games have been plagued by frequent weirdness. The Easthaven lockup is the most notorious, but I also had my second game stall when you're supposed to go upstairs and hear Arundel's last words . . . no Arundel to be seen anywhere. Ironically, the solution to both these bugs was to reinstall the whole game *without* the patch! One step forward, two steps back, eh?

Anyone else care to comment on this? I'm looking forward to BG2, but I hope the Black Isle people give it the fine tooth comb treatment. I prefer my frustrations to come from challenging encounters, not computer restarts.

[IMG] What I hate is when the equipment gets stuck on the ground and I can't get by... I really oughta get the patch, EH

  3. I have been downloading and installing the patches as they become available. I'm almost at the end of the game, and I haven't run into any problems at all.

I personally didn't run into any bugs my first time through the game, and finished it before the official patch had even been released. I never installed the beta patch, because I figured that stood more of a chance of making things worse than anything else.

Playing multi-player, I'm now at patch 1.05, and am still not noticing anything game-stopping, but the game does occasionally lock up when doing a quicksave. This could be due more to connection than a bug, however.

I think BG2 will be alot more stable than IWD was, for the same reason that BG1 was more stable... IWD was rushed out the door to make sure it was released in time not to conflict with BG2, which meant that alot of bugs went un-fixed, and alot of quests (that would have extended the playability of the game) were simply left out.

    Kinda sad, yes.

[IMG] yep, it really bugs me when u cant get the items on the ground.
also, theres this bug where either u or your enemies cant get through a portion of the map, specially the narrow ones. killing the fire giants in chap6 was easy because they cant get through a left-side bridge, though the fire giants on the right-side bridge were able to get through. this is on the quest to get the badge frm the female elven fighter-something.
however, the maps would return to normal after saving and reloading again!

Yes, there is a bug where you can't seem to step on a death pile on the ground. I've run into it several times in Dragon's Eye.

However, all you need is patience. Click on the pile and wait. Eventually the interface to pick up the gear will appear even if the character can't quite step onto the pile.

It's much more of a nuisance that these things can block doors and narrow passages, although they do decay after a long time.

This bug was suposed to have been fixed by the 1.06 patch, but obviously was not.
