Marijuana is legal in Canada and in some of the States as well as many countries.

I've always believed that although it's a drug and definitely has it's bad side, it's far less harmful than alcohol, which has been legal for many years, in most places of the world.

I think it depends on how you are consuming it and what your various tolerances are like. I know that some people can have a genetic predisposition to alcoholism, but I do not know if any studies have been done on pot.

Now that I am an old fart, I generally like a drink every now and again (not more than a couple of drinks as I feel it the next day), but I really don't do pot to any degree. Never really like it much.

I guess I like my perceptions au natural.

Dmc, I think the way you describe your alcohol consumption, you are able to keep your perceptions au natural. Most of my family like to drink for celebrations and family gatherings but not to get drunk. That's a responsible way to consume alcohol and not harmful as long as basic rules like not drinking and driving are concerned.

I also know people who are responsible marijuana users who follow the rules, as well as people who use it medically.

What I'm interested in, are the people who abuse alcohol compared to the people who abuse marijuana, whether it's smoked, or ingested otherwise.

Alcohol is physically addictive and marijuana isn't (although some studies question that). Marijuana can certainly be psychologically addictive. Tolerance and consumption play a roll in the abuse of both alcohol and MJ. I feel however that the behavioural differences between a heavily drunk person are far more detrimental than those of a person who has consumed heavy doses of MJ. I also feel that heavy consumption of alcohol is more detrimental to health.

Deaths in England and Wales due to marijuana/cannabis in 2017 was 3. In comparison there were 7697 due to alcohol. Both figures are from the ONS. Think those figures speak for themselves.

Alcohol is heavily linked with domestic abuse & violence , as well as crime and it can severely impact a persons judgement (not a good thing).

Weed on the other hand only has one downside in my view - if a person is at risk of mental health related issues or has a genetic family history of schizophrenia or other illnesses then they should avoid it. As weed can cause problems to emerge.

Alcohol does have it's good points. A small serving of wine for example has health benefits or could be used in cooking etc. Alcohol is by far worse than the old devils cabbage however if Alcohol is moderated and used sensibly, I would actually say cigarettes are worse. Cigarettes are vile.

A rare serious post on here from myself! How unusual.

Lol, did you write that Imp, or did someone else write it for you? Also, very good points and I would argue with none of it.

Do people on here actually think I'm incapable of stringing together a few sentences? lol, Yeah of course I wrote out the above. I'm just not serious the majority of the time and prefer to have fun that's all...

That's funny that you should say they were good, because I thought they were terrible points. :spin:

I guess you could look at the way you present yourself in conversation and consider how it might be read by other people? I mean, we all don't know each other. I've met more than a few "interesting" people on this site.

I do get what you're saying. What I said above was meant more in a sarcastic manner, I was actually poking fun at myself that people might think that. No hard feelings behind anything, I was seeing the funny side of it.

I think we just got a bit mixed up. I assumed the "did someone else write it for you" was a bit of banter and replied to it in a joking way.

    a couple of thoughts:

    - alcohol is consumed far more then marijuana, it's easier to get, I guess it's cheaper as well... so you can't really compare the yearly death rates
    - looking at fatal accidents, I assume marijuana is indeed safer though. When you use too much alcohol, you can do stupid things and endanger yourself.... or get aggressive for example. When you do too much pot, you're most likely stop doing things at all. When you do decide to drive a car afterwards, it's still risky though.
    - that's the risk of using marijuana, it can still be addictive (maybe more mentally than physically ) and you become lame and lazy. Had some friends that starten with a joint now and then and in the end they woke up every morning, (or afternoon) to start with smoking pot and wasting there study...

    - if you're wise enough not to get addicted, I found out that the effect of smoking marijuana is not the same for everybody. Some people het merry but some others get stoned and slow. After trying it a couple of times in a group, I decided not to do that anymore. It was so boring. I liked to do it when I was alone though and then walk around in nature or listening to music... A year later, I had some panic-attacks though and that's when I decided to quit... and stick to booze ;-) It's more predictable and easier to stop in time. As long as you don't drink a lot, not much will happen.

Yes imp, it was just banter and I know you wrote the stuff above it. But before you offered that solid piece of viewpoint, I also thought you might not be "all there". You seem like a nice enough guy and decent entertainment value so I really didn't care if you were a little loopy. Some of my posts are loopy as fuck, but I balance them with critical thinking. So that being said, I like seeing this real side of you. It makes you more real in my eyes. I get that this is a fantasy game forum and a lot people here love playing character rolls. So if that is why you came here that's cool.

Also you are not the only person I've thought wasn't "all there" but again, I try to like everyone equally. :p .

Good thoughts, keep em going. You can have a cocktail with dmc in the evening ;)

I started this thread in the Alley of Dangerous Angles because I thought it might be a dangerous topic but everyone seems to pretty much agree.

Ah well I'm Dutch so both are legal here, I can get pot around the corner. Alcohol is still way more accepted, even though it is harddrugs. Ah well, most important is how much people use. A bottle of whisky in an evening is worse then sharing some pod... doing four in an evening is not so good compared to drinking one glass of good whisky...

All where? Thanks, I guess. Who's to say the loopy side isn't the real side though? :p And no, I'm being my genuine self on here. Always.

Well, I threw that list of names out there hoping at least one of them would read their names on there and question why I chose them! Damn, nobody took the bait :(:bs::good::smash:. In truth I like all you people and I don't think any of you are extraordinarily weird. I was just playing. (Except you imp) ;)

Britain is the world's largest producer of legal cannabis, according to a United Nations report. Britons themselves can't touch any of it though, since cannabis is illegal in the UK. Joe Biden is in the process of decriminalizing marijuana use, yet in the UK you can go to prison for possessing it.

It's actually ridiculous that America is more sensible on this issue than us. When your country is more backwards than America, you know your government is doing something really, really wrong.
