Love that the seed remains the same after a reload; it is absolutely fantastic. I know exactly what is going to happen up until I decide to change what I did before.

But why do you reload, then?

Obviously so I can try something different at the point where it went wrong. A typical example: When I really need to stun and capture one of the aliens but the Arc Thrower fails even though the odds should have been really good (i.e. I'm right next to the alien and it's near death). All I have to do is reload, do exactly what I did prior to that point, then have one of my other soldiers take his turn where I would have tried to stun the alien and then try to stun it. It invariably works.

Same thing for any other situation I really need to happen; I just have a different soldier do something prior to the point that what I wanted to happen failed.

Unless it's the last action in your turn, I'd guess. I thought in XCOM2, if you failed an action with one soldier at that point, doing another attack with any soldier at that point in the seed generation would have the same roll (i.e. chance of failure).

I don't know about XCOM 2, yet. But for XCOM a movement action is enough to use up a roll so I can essentially throw away the poor roll any way I want including a movement action. Even if it is the last action, I can try doing it before the last one... It's just great knowing I can get the prior results I liked exactly as they played out before so I can try something slightly different to get a better outcome if I choose.

I believe in XCOM 2 a movement is not enough to get a new roll. But if the roll after the bad roll is not good either, you're going to have yet another thing to do. And given how XCOM feels mostly like battle chess, it's not that great to waste moves like that, if you even have that many moves left. Though I suppose you could try different orders of things to see if that affects the results.

I mean, I can see where you're coming from, and it certainly saves some effort, especially if you've not saved in a while. And Jagged Alliance 2 also works like that, out of the box, anyway. Except in JA2, moving a tile would not affect your ability to shoot afterwards as it does in XCOM. It's just not my preference for the rolls to be fixed that way.

Oh, I can see how someone would want events to be random after a restore. I was simply expressing my absolute preference for the randomness to be the same after a restore. I don't use a restore to change a bad outcome all that often, but if I take significant risk to set up something that I really need to happen, and the odds should be in my favor, yet it fails, I like to be able to do the same thing knowing everything will go the same until I decide to change it.

My own reason for why I prefer the scene to stay the same is so I can try different tactics to see if I can improve my survival. If I want to get a completely fresh restart on the battle I can do that by going back into saves and pulling the autosave it does just before you go on the mission instead of just restarting the mission directly. I wasn't even aware of the fixed RNG; that's something for me to think about. I ended up restarting my run a short way in because I realized that the ship-layout with where the power plants were was horrible and I'd made some really bad decisions on where to build some of the important chambers. - and sorry it's taking me so long to respond on all of this: I have far too many windows on TWO computers along with doing so many other things that I'm losing track of what I'm doing where. :)

Finished Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas ... Mrs Bruno was pissed I spent so much time on the computer. I’m now playing KOTOR 2 and risking extreme marital discourse. The Witcher series is next (I’m a glutton for punishment). Or I may play Fallout 4 on the PS4 ... if I can get T3 and T3V2 to let me get on the damn thing....

Doing another run through BG:EE for modding purposes. I've also started playing the original Legend of Zelda. Another case where my nostalgia made the game seem like it was less annoying than it actually is, but I'll get through it. I'm actually sort of considering recreating the game as a summer challenge.

Now that City of Heroes has servers up and running again i've been doing little else with my spare time. Best character creation system in any game for sure.

Someone put a lot of effort into that character creation.

Also, @T2Bruno, not sure I could return to Bethesda level of writing and characterisation after F:NV. Also wouldn't ever want to play a Bethesda game on a console. Mods are more than half the fun.

This is a mobile game right? Crazy level of detail.

This is my current CoH toon, tried to recreate the classic Gundam look since pretty much anything is possible. Have a pretty nice skeletal necromancer as well.

Maybe I'm an oddball, or maybe it's because my first introduction to video games was on an Intelivision (contemporary of the original Atari) and spent a considerable amount of time playing games on the Apple II family (including the IIGS), but I find that I care far less about fancy, highly-detailed and photo-realistic graphics than gameplay and storyline.

Heck, I liked the Gold Box games, which were the first ones I played with customizable avatars, and I found them to be ugly even in the day. The portraits were OK, but the avatars in the tactical battle screen were ugly.

Yeah, no kidding. Character creation is probably the only good thing about that game, but man is it impressive. I wish most game developers would put half as much effort into their character creation as Asian companies do.

I think those of us who grew up in the days of shitty graphics all feel the same way. That's not to say I don't appreciate beautiful graphics, but I can do without if the gameplay and/or story are on the level. Sadly, these days, story often takes a back seat to good looks and gameplay is riddled with bugs.

Mods are really the only saving grace for the modern Bethesda games (if you can call them games at all), and even those might not be a thing anymore in future games. Like most larger game corporations, Bethesda seems insistent on moving toward "games as a service" model, with whom mods don't really work well. They can't really sell you shitty skin repaints for absurd prices at the game store if some guy can do the same for free.

I think even the most hardcore fans should have to take a step back and re-evaluate their stance after the whole Fallout 76 fiasco.

That video just sent me down the rabbit hole of that guy's small but very good channel. Sometimes I forget how insane and hilarious the internet can be.

Now that I think about it i've never played a Jester and haven't touched BG in over a year. I think a new run maybe in order, especially with some shiny new mods like Deities of Faerun.

The endless replayability of BG, man.
