I like strawberries from Oxnard that I can buy on the side of the road. Yum.

In further news, it is about to be yummy yellow corn season.

In further, further news, little pretzel bites stuffed with peanut butter are amazing. Not good for the diet, but amazing.

It doesn't matter, as long you spend more energy than your intake, you can eat anything*.

*That may result in other issues besides weight gain though.

Sweet corn ... you can't just group all into one category. Some strains are much better than others ... specifically Ambrosia (which has both white and yellow) and Silver Queen (white kernels) are awesome. The king IMO is Mirai -- but it's expensive and hard to find (it has to be hand pollinated but gives the sweetest taste).

The in-laws are farmers (corn and soy beans) -- I've been indoctrinated.

I've seen the little pretzels stuffed with peanut butter but I've never tried them. I wonder if you just took pretzels and dipped them in peanut butter if you would get the same effect?

ION , have any of you ever raised tadpoles? I'm wondering if keeping them in a fishbowl stunts their growth - they seem to be living fine (had them already almost three weeks I think) but they haven't started with the back legs yet and they seem kind of small.

Not sure you would get the same effect, but I can't imagine it would be bad by any stretch of the imagination.

T2 - I don't care what you call it, I get it at the farm stand a couple of miles away. They grow it and it's always good.

Our top three guesses for your English dialect: 1. American (Standard) 2. Singaporean 3. Australian
Our top three guesses for your native (first) language: 1. English 2. Swedish 3. Norwegian
Should I be flattered that my English has reached the point where it's no longer distinguishable from that of native speakers?

Then again, it's not like I need a test to tell me that. Most native English speakers aren't particularly proficient in it. :shake:

One wild strawberry is not like the other, as I've noticed. The ones that you'll generally encounter in the Netherlands are fairly tasteless and/or bitter. The ones you can find in the forest in Russia tend to be a fair bit sweeter, more like normal strawberries but not as watery.

That is very interesting, I didn't realize there is a such a difference but it makes sense. The ones in my region of Canada are tiny, sweet, and flavourful so that's why I said that :)

I also like nice juicy steaks right off a BBQ.

Since my last random food post garnered such a response, I figured, "What the hell, why not?"

Most people don't really know how to barbecue. I've eaten badly barbecued food way too many times.

Then again, most people don't really know how to cook at all. Even when they believe they do.

Oh Hell ... I know how to BBQ - when we first got the BBQ my ex told me I couldn't use it because only men BBQ but within a year he let go of the idea because he was really too lazy to do any cooking and I took over. His BBQ did suck but I'm really good at it and I even made ribs last night.

The whole "barbecuing is a man thing" idea is ridiculous. In fact, Mythbusters tested it and found that both sexes are pretty much equally good (or bad) at it.

As far as ribs go, however, I firmly believe they should be prepared in an oven with a nice BBQ sauce. Every other method just pales in comparison.

I with Keneth on the rib thing. Slow cooking in an over is the way, unless you have one of those dedicated smoker thingies (we gave my brother in law a deluxe one for one of his birthdays and he turns out awesome ribs on it).

The danger of BBQ'ing ribs is that the ribs need a long slow cook, preferably moist (like lathered with BBQ sauce and enclosed in foil) and a BBQ is no more conducive to that than an oven, and far more likely to be uneven.

If you want to finish them on the BBQ, I suspect that will work, and if you are lazy and buy the pre-cooked ones such that you basically heat them up, there's no reason not to do that on a BBQ.

LOL I do pre-cook them in the oven and finish them off on the BBQ - I also pre-boil chicken with onions and carrots and garlic etc before I put it on the BBQ. It's the flavour of the smoke and outside that I like.

What is this generic word I'm hearing? :p

Well, that's good then. For me, the BBQ sauce is generally more than enough.
