    Tried to get into Dr. Who several times... meh... I just don't see the brilliance. I say screw Stargate and Star Trek, we need Hollywood to spend all their coppers on more Highlander!

    Alf was pretty annoying, in my opinion. My childhood was one of Star Trek TNG, Stargate, Babylon 5 and the apparently fairly obscure Space: Above and Beyond. Always found it a shame that the latter didn't get continued.

    And MacGuyver, on the non-SF side, of course.

    I was totally hooked from the very beginning. When they aired the show here in Germany I had no idea they didn't renew it and kept waiting for season 2 forever.

    Had a solid crush on Queen Vansen :)

    And Lt.Col- McQueen was badass.

    Yeah, kept waiting for the new season but it never appeared. Real shame. I may have to look it up somewhere as well. Really liked most of the characters in the show as well. McQueen was always bad-ass, but the others did pretty well as well.

    At least the acting in Space Above and Beyond was pretty decent. Watching the early episodes of Star Trek TNG, on the other hand, can be somewhat embarrassing.

    I like Star Trek, Babylon 5, Dr. Who, Outer Limits, the new Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, and more.

    Person of Interest is sort of a very near scifi in that it involves a computer that actively monitors everyone in the USA and sends out an alert if it sees something. Mostly modern life and technology except for the computer system known as the Machine.

    The NSA may have saved all my emails for me (say could I read a few of my older ones if they are sitting around somewhere?) but The Machine is both an AI and operates a level of observation beyond what many think any single CIA or NSA operation is capable of..


    I used to what Space Above and Beyond as well, one of the things that struck me is that how my opinion of one of the side character's changed as my understanding of history and international politics did-this would be the lady who was elected president.

    Last but not least I agree that Scifi is far from dead when it comes to movies. The I like the new Star Trek movie franchise and there are other films that are certainly scifi as well.

    It's tough to do a space travel story that doesn't feel derivitive(sic) of the ones that have come before. If I were a writer/developer, I wouldn't want to run the risk.

    If every writer ever thought like that, no show would ever be more than one season and there would never be that many shows to begin with. Rehashing existing ideas is the foundation of the entertainment industry.

    Here's hoping it'll be a "proper" futuristic show, not anything historical again. That PR doesn't provide any specifics, unfortunately.
