Oh, and I play Dungeon Defenders on PS3 (mostly offline)

I have a lvl 73 Monk. Damn hard to level up after lvl 70.
A lvl 64 huntress. And a lvl 38 mage (who would have been higher if my visiting cousin didn't delete him and I had to start again).

It always seemed a little fiddly for me, though at the same time the combat is pretty satisfying.

Yeah the Haren's goods choice you only learn afterwards what's really up. Funny thing is, both of these choices do have an effect later on in the game.

I, uhh, got nostalgic and re-installed SM's Alpha Centauri after reading a random blog on it.

And started playing my Spartans. I forgot how addictive this one could be and kept playing "just one more turn" till it was very late (or early for that matter) and my eyes felt like sand-paper.

Still as awesome as i remembered it to be. And still unsurpassed.

Managed to get Bioshock 2 working. One of the fixes I had tried was to switch to DirectX 9 (from 10), but the web site I found the fix on gave the wrong code. Once I corrected that, it worked fine. Interestingly, after awhile I switched back to DX10, and haven't had any problems, so maybe it was just a certain part of the game (which was where a lot of people seemed to have problems).

So basically, I am now enjoying Bioshock 2. :)

Mostly Privateer 2: the Darkening. Nothing like a good bit of space flighty-shooty. :D

Playing MDK 2. Fast-paced, but some of the puzzle aspects are annoying in their randomness (which is what I dislike about puzzle games in general - not that MDK 2 is a exclusively a puzzle game). Overall I'm enjoying it.

MDK2 is great. Normally I'm not much for puzzling and platforming, but MDK2 has enough action and humour to offset that.

I have been playing some Torchlight recently. Picked it up from GoG quite a while back, probably in a bundle as well, as I don't think I would've picked it up knowing it was a Diablo clone. Well, not really a clone, more streamlined as they call it. The levelling up upgrades are pretty simplistic - no synergy between skills like in Diablo 2, or at least not that I've noticed so far.

The classes are simpler, too. There's just the warrior, rogue and mage. The graphics are cartoonish, not that bad looking.

The game has a shared stash so that you can put items there that you find for other characters - something I always thought was lacking in Diablo 2. Of course, like Diablo 2, you'll find tons of useless stuff as well. And everything is levelled, so what was pretty good a couple of levels ago, is so yesterday's news a couple of levels onwards.

Anyways, it's still fun for now, in a mindless kind of way. It doesn't seem like you're able to grind bosses like in Diablo 2, and I think that's a definite improvement. The grind is what ultimately made me quit playing Diablo 2, because it just became so repetitive and with so little reward.

There does seem to be some inconsistencies in the difficulty curve, though. There's the normal levels, storyline related and such, and there's different maps that you can teleport to with much higher level monsters (and presumably better loot). It's a bit jarring when I go from the normal levels to one of these and then die in the first mob that I encounter. Or if I've done a couple of these maps and then go back to the regular dungeons to find that I can just breeze right through them.

I liked Torchlight, but I have to agree that it's a bit light on content... but I got it free off GOG, so I couldn't complain! :shake: Torchlight II I've enjoyed more; much more interesting classes & skills, imo. Still kind of mindless in that ARPG way, but me & the Mrs. can play together over the LAN, which helps.

If Henkie is enjoying it I may just need to consider trying it for myself.

If you got it free on GoG, then I probably got it in the same offer. After being so turned off of Diablo 2 when I realised it was all just a big grindfest (it was fun for a while, though), I just can't imagine me getting Torchlight, even if it was 75% off.

Like I said, I enjoy it so far. And like Magpie said, in a mindless kind of way. Not quite as mindless as, say, Alien Shooter 2, and perhaps not quite as fun as that one either, but still quite enjoyable. Didn't play for a few weeks (vacation :hello:), but intend to play it a bit more, now. Time allowing, of course.

It's $15 on GoG now, though, and I wouldn't say it's worth quite that much. I know you have different standards about this, but I would probably only start recommending it at half that price.

It's funny how the same armor that you put on your barbarian can look like a full plate armor on that barbarian, but will look like a full jacket on the mage and like a form of skimpy outfit on the rogue. No sir, not stereotyping at all ;)

Steam currently has Torchlight and Torchlight 2 on sale for $3.74 and $4.99 respectively.

These games are like diablo 1 and 2, right?

I think I have had my fill of that type of game for life . . .

Right. I played another Diablo clone (Titan Quest) a couple of years ago but got tired of it after a month or so. I bought Torchlight 2 from Steam during the holiday sale; I'm sure I'll enjoy it for awhile (certainly enough to get my five bucks worth), but I don't expect to get years (or even months) of entertainment out of it. Of course, I have no idea when I'll actually get around to playing it.

Hmm, I may just have to pick one, or both, up for a rainy day. Not that my rainy days typically give me a lot of time to game these days, but a fool can dream.

Any opinions about which title between the two is better?

    Thanks for the tip Splunge.

Torchlight II. There's not much different about the two, other than the sequel being both more & better of the same. And it's not like you'll miss out on any plot or characterisation. :p

Cool. I picked up Torchlight 2 for $5.00. So if there's ever a day when I feel like gaming, and I'm not sure what to play... TL2 will be the likely winner.

Where did you get it? You could have got it from Steam for only $4.99. :p
