Finally finished Fallout 3. Really enjoyed it, but can't say I'll be playing it again any time soon.

Now playing Assassin's Creed (the first one). It's OK, but I've just started, and I'm still trying to find a control setup that I like. I'll need a few hours of gameplay before I can say whether I'm enjoying the game.

Anybody play FTL: Faster Than Light? Great rogue-like spaceship game I've been playing for a while.

My favorite weapon combo: Ion Blaster Mark II and the Fire Beam :)

FTL is often on sale on Steam, but the description of the game has never really appealed to me, so I've never bought it. Having said that, I often like your recommendations, so I might just have to give it a try. Damn you, BTA! :p

Hehe. :) It's great if you like rogue-like (-like?) games. Basically randomly generated, permadeath, likely not to win, needs lots of luck to win any given attempt. Lots of replay-ability and lots of stuff to discover.

If you don't like playing games where playing is its own reward, and you expect to win any given attempt, then you won't like it. If you go in expecting to just have fun playing then I think it's lots of fun.

Though I mostly do "cheat" by making backups of the savegames it creates when you save and quit so if I have bad luck I don't have to start over if I don't want to (e.g. If I've had pretty good luck so far).

I'm trying myself at Dwarf Fortress, after I kept hearing about it left and right in the Net.

Have downloaded the 'LazyNewbPack' that comes easy to install with sounds and graphics.
And play the 'game' (Sim is more like it) according to a youtube How-to-paly-DF tutorial.

It's fair to say i bit off more than i should.

    ;)

    Aaa! Save-scumming! Burn! Burn! BUUURN!

Seriously though, FTL is a nice little game. I got it from GOG though, as I do not want to support Steam DRM.

Yeah, I know, but I can't help it. :) If I get a Fire Beam and/or an Ion Blast Mark II (or other rare good stuff), I just can't let go that easily :)

Spent 22 euros on the Mac OS X version of a 9 year old game. That right, Rome Total War. Now I'm wasting a lot of time playing the Julii to make sure that my money was well spent...

Finally clewing up my playthrough of Fallout: New Vegas - waited and got the bundle with all the dlc on sale. I might go back to certain savegames and do things differently for different factions, but mostly like Splunge's opinion of FO3...it almost feels like work, at this point.

Meanwhile I'm grinding my nose against an MMO-flight-sim game, War Thunder. It's really gorgeous (fly over and around the forts at Valetta, Malta?), and it's got enough sense of achievement that I don't mind usually getting ganked about 1/4 the way through the 'sortie'.

Started a nice little indie RPG: Driftmoon - got that cheap on GOG with a few others. It's very moddable, so I'm hoping to see more free content through it. ;)

After this I might go back to Sid Meier's Pirates!...AGAIN.

For Xmas, I'm hoping I can get TES5 and its dlc cheap and catch up with everybody. ;)

It’s not that FO3 felt like work to me. It’s just that it was a long game, and I can’t really imagine what I would do differently that would be more enjoyable than what I did the first time through. I did most of the quests, got all the perks I wanted, and tried most of the weapon types. I didn’t try melee or unarmed, but I can’t see that as being all that practical in a game where the enemies have guns. I didn’t use any companions, but I prefer soloing anyway. The one thing I relied on greatly was the Chinese stealth armour (which I happened to get very early) – I realize it’s considered to be over-powered, but without it, I think the game would have felt like work. So yeah, I doubt I’ll be playing FO3 again, particularly considering how many games I have in my Steam library that I haven’t touched yet.

Anyway, still trying to find a control setup that I like for Assassin’s Creed. The problem I have is that I have a 5 button mouse, and the game theoretically supports it, but the 3 buttons aside from the 2 main ones seem to be hit-or-miss when I click them. So for example, if I map button 4 for the head, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Aside from that problem, while I’m still not very far along, I’m enjoying the game to this point.

Saint's Row 3 & 4 are still on my wish list. It's unfortunate that they require steam, otherwise I'd probably have gotten them already.

Haven't really had a lot of time to play games lately, so just playing some games that I can play for short amount of times without a problem.
Mostly Alien Shooter 2 in survival mode for fast paced top-down action and some BG2 as well, playing a party with a half-orc druid that I decided could get two pips in weapons (though no more than the usual proficiency points).

The survival mode in Alien Shooter 2 is interesting in that you get to choose which weapons you want to upgrade for better ones on level up, whereas in the normal campaign you just buy the weapons you want. This means that you'll have to plan which weapons you want to specialise in, as you can only pick one weapon to improve to the next level at each level up and you'll have to progress through each weapon tree to get to the best weapons. So to get the best weapons of one type (shotguns, machineguns, explosive, energy), you'll have to put the points in that type.

And you do need those best weapons to survive/succeed. Additionally, some of the levels favour certain weapons for survival. Especially the fourth level (out of five) can be a painful lesson in this. It throws a constant barrage of small enemies at you that burst into acid when they get near you, then throw in some mid level enemies that aren't individually threathening, but they can still kill you quickly if they surround you.

To fend of this constant barrage of small, quick enemies and larger and also quick enemies, you'll need some serious crowd control, for which I've found the flame thrower to be the best. The trick is that if you didn't know that, you'd have to go for the second best, which would be a combo of rocket launchers and machine guns. Also you don't want to upgrade your energy weapon tree or you'll lose the flamethrower.

It's fun to discover and it's fun to try out if you can be succesful with other combinations. That said, it can be sometimes frustrating because ammo, health and armor all depend on random drops, so in some of the levels (fourth level, I'm looking at you) you'll need to be lucky with the drops as well.

Well, after playing Assassin’s Creed for awhile, it started to feel repetitive; apparently this is a fairly common sentiment. I decided to put it aside for now, but I’ll get back to it eventually, because the story seems pretty decent.

So I decided to play Bioshock 2. Except that it keeps crashing. Apparently this is a very common problem as well. There are a number of solutions online dealing with save games, but they don’t seem to work for me. I’ve also read where Games For Windows Live is an issue, but I don’t even think I have that installed (at least I can’t find it), so that wouldn’t appear to be the problem. So I’m stumped at this point. I’ll try doing some more research, but I don’t have my hopes up.

So I guess I will move on to one of the other 7 games in my Steam library that I haven’t touched yet.

I've been playing Skyrim. I'm up to level 51 now, and I took a brief foray back into Dragon Age: Origins to try out some mods (this probably shows me as an idiot, but I couldn't figure out how to make them work on my Mac even with the various programs designed for Mac, so now that I have Windows on it, I was trying them out), but went back to Skyrim before I got very far.

Playing the Witcher, which cost me something like $2.50. I am at the end of chapter one and find it is a very fun game. No bugs to speak of so far and I like both the story and the mechanics of the game.

    PS3 and PC Gamer

On PC Reliving the old-school stuff.

Dune: Emperor (still a surprisingly playable game, if not for the CG cinematics looking painfully dated).
Baldur's Gate II ('cos I never actually finished it).

    On PS3
Rainbow Moon (a quaint game in the vein of Secrets of Evermore/Mana)
    and Zen Pinball
    Epic Quest. I'm currently ranked 320 with a score of 496m! :D
Also enjoy Fantastic 4 table, Clone Wars table (a merciless table), and MARS

The Witcher was and is a very enjoyable game to me. The combat mechanic is not that great, but I do like the later acrobatics you get to see with them. Plus that some of the later weapons make armoured opponents not quite so annoying to fight in a group.

The best part is the choices you get, though, which actually feel like real world choices, rather than the lawful good vs the stupidly evil choices that most other games present you with.

The combat mechanic seems to me to be a decent blend of just point and click vs. having to have some modicum of manual dexterity. I have no complaints in that regard.

So far my choice was whether to side with the witch or the villagers, which was a lesser of evils that was reasonably well done. I guess I had another choice when I decided to protect Haren's goods but, at the time, I wasn't aware of quite how much of a scumbag he was, I just thought he was a run of the mill hood.
