Anybody know how to get rid of radio frequency interference? A mic at work that connects to the PC via USB seems to be picking up a religious radio station. (This interference can only be heard in recordings, ironically, so it is a silent killer. ;)) The mic is not the greatest quality, and from what I gather it's actually probably the cable that is doing it. From the interwebs I've heard "separate your cables!" and "get shorter cables!" and "buy a new PC that doesn't have interference!" and "point the mic toward Jupiter at sunset!" and even "clean your registry with random shady cleaner!" but these suggestions are all either ineffective or unrealistic. The only thing I've heard that sounds plausible is using ferrite rings on the cables.

    Any real world suggestions?

    Thanks in advance. :)

I would try a high-quality USB cable first if that's possible. What it should have is the shield grounded to the mic and the PC which should shield the cable from external interference.

The suggestions to shorten the cable are not completely off; the length is what is getting that specific stationed tuned. If you change the length then you won't tune that channel, but you may pick up a different one. :)

Sadly the cable is built into the mic, so I can't replace it. (At least not easily.) I should also note that the issue seems to be environmental in that it didn't happen at our old location.

    Thanks though.

That's not surprising since AM radio is affected by all kinds of stuff. Different location, different interferences.
