As some of you may know, Nigel Farage's birthday is on April 3rd. For those of you who don't know, Nigel Farage is a British freedom fighter who has been fighting for freedom, democracy, gun ownership and the national sovereignty of his people for two decades now.

In the early 1990s, Nigel Farage and other British patriots founded the Anti-Federalist League, which was later renamed the "UK Independence Party." The UK Independence Party started off as a relatively small party without much influence, but by the late 1990s it grew into a strong opposition party, representing libertarianism and populism. Over the past decade, UKIP has grown massively and under Nigel Farage's leadership and is now the third largest political party in the United Kingdom.

In the last few years alone, UKIP has made massive gains in local elections, devolved elections and national elections in the United Kingdom. Today UKIP has dozens of councilor seats, a seat in the Northern Ireland Assembly, three seats in the House of Lords and eleven seats in the European Parliament. In the last general election, UKIP received ~6% of the vote and had a single seat in the House of Commons (though the MP later defected). In the three years since the last election, UKIP has massively gained in support and virtually all opinion polls in the country show UKIP set to take ~30% of the vote in the next election, confirming UKIP's status as the third largest party in Britain.

In honor of this great man's life, accomplishments and his party, I am hosting a celebratory event at my college. This event shall include a speech I am preparing, as well as information and discussion about both Nigel Farage and UKIP. I will also be signing copies of Nigel Farage's novel, Flying Free, if anyone asks me too. I will also invite guest speakers to come and give speeches about Nigel Farage and UKIP. What are you doing to celebrate the life and times of this great man?

I'm not clear on why someone would want you to sign his novel for them...

Hmmm - is this in Whatnots because you don't expect it to get serious, because you don't mean it seriously, or because Barmy Army is going to make an excellent crack that will cause great laughter amongst the large majority of people reading it?

Seems a weird place to start a thread of this nature.

    :p

    /me casts . . . summon the Barmy Army!!

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

Nigel Farage is a twat. We gain far more from being a part of the EU than it costs us, clearly. I'll vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party before I vote UKIP. They're just a party full of right wing Tories.

Farage is that much of an idiot I wouldn't be surprised if UKIP arose from a dinner table conversation about what's better; British beef or Brussel sprouts and things just got out of hand....

I voted "Not a whole lot" and "Other" - I am not yet sure whether I'm going to do anything but if I do, it will most probably be :bang: banging my head against the wall or  some other expression of frustration.

I thought April Fools' Day was only celebrated on the first of April.

[IMG] "Hero" is definitely not the first word that comes to mind...

I'm curious about that as well.

[IMG] I have absolutely no intent to celebrate the birthday of some dullard that an anonymous internet user with a gun obsession hero worships :p

Along with the others I don't see how signing a book you didn't even write is worth your while, or even have a decent reasoning behind it. I'd personally just find it weird if I published a book and someone else held an event signing it - whether it would be to forge my signature or put their own, it just comes across as daft.

Screaming Lord Sutch unfortunately committed suicide in 99, the MRLP was jointly led by Howling Laud Hope and his pet cat; Cat Mandu. Unfortunately Cat Mandu was killed in a tragic traffic accident in July 02 resulting in part of the manicfesto including the introduction of cat crossings on all major roads.

Come on, people! Use your imagination!

    "To Splunge,
This might be Nigel's book, but I'm a bigger twat.
    Signed, Arctic Daishi"

I'd be totally up for that.

I love the British or maybe more specifically the English sense of humour. At least when I can understand what they are saying. :) That Call My Euro Bluff program is a lot of fun.

Flying free sounds like a great idea to me but I don't think the airlines would go for it.

Its a show called QI actually, Call My Euro Bluff was just the name of that segment. It's one of the best things in telly IMHO.

I don't know about that. It's just a quiz show with comedians, with an intellectual twist. Stephen Fry is awesome in it.

I voted "other". That day I will be venerating my best friend and probably forget about this new god Farage you mentioned. I'll be improving my best friend's new home. If you want, I could sign the plasterboards or the underside of some planks of his laminate floor. All for the greater glory of my best friend.

Also, giving attention to this Farage would be contradicting the two highest principles: "Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry" and "What Would Barmy Army Do?"

Y'know, I keep scanning the OP for irony/sarcasm and coming up blank. W. T. F? I seriously hope they were drunk and/or high when they wrote this. Farage oozes all the competence and political acumen of Blackadder's Lieutenant George. :shake:
