Only one month to raise $1.1M? Is that typical for these kickstarters?

For established game designers (especially with a cult following that Avellone has), they'll probably collect a million in under 3 days. They'll probably have 5+ before the end of the month. They're already at nearly 600k... :shake:

I mean, putting "Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer" in the first sentence was enough for most CRPG lovers to click the "Back This Project" button without reading anything else, I'm sure.

Here's the news on SP: http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57995

Time to make a new forum, I guess. :D

(Incidentally, am I the only one taken aback by how Sawyer seems to have starved himself nearly to death? :whoa:)

And just when all hope had faded, a light there was, upon the horizon. And when they gazed upon it they knew -- it was the light of redemption. When they saw it, the multitudes groaned inside themselves with joy.

"Perhaps we have not been abandoned to die alone after all," spoke a lone voice from among them.

And verily did the people rejoice!

Is anyone going to miss it not being D&D?

As long as it's a good game with good combat mechanics, I don't particularly care if it's D&D. Especially considering that D&D would add considerable red tape to the development process... and include our "good friends" at Atari in the mix, I'd just as soon steer clear of that license.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a new D&D based CRPG as much as anyone, but I've become far too cynical about such an enterprise ever amounting to much in today's development world. K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) is good advice... and a D&D based CRPG isn't simple.

Yeah! I have that particular mindset, that I'm too old now the get deeply involved in yet another complex fantasy world.

But then again. Given the caliber of the developers i can see myself not givin' a frakk this time. :)

They have already $777,098 and 31 days to go! Wow!

No more excuses for Obsidian now. They created a few flawed gems up till now but always blamed the publishers for the creative and time constraints placed upon the projects.

This could be it. Imagine a unique IP like Arcanum with the polish/quality/freedom of the infinity games. I'll pledge!

800.000+ and the first day isn't over yet. Here we go.

This actually may be the dream RPG all the old RP'ers here wanted for Christmas!

They have already $896,332 and 31 days to go! Wow!
And I just saw the sum & backer count jump up.:D

I'll miss the familiarity of the D&D rules. A new ruleset to figure out while playing the game is somewhat annoying for me especially these days when everything is taught in-game in some way and usually poorly detailed. But that's a minor annoyance.

I won't miss it at all, especially as D&D is barely recognizeable to me anyway.

My two recent played games are DAO and Skyrim, neither of which is D&D and I am fine.

I agree with dmc. I got damn high hopes for this game, though. Looks like we can finally have another great rpg.

I thought the D&D license reverted back to Hasbro after a lawsuit over something or another. As for the game it sounds like fun but to bad the trailer is unplayable on this pc it lags like a ***** and just unwatchable. Hopefully someone can push it to youtube. The CPU in this pc is old and single core so newer videos dont work with software render but hardware render works perfectly with my 9600 GT from nvidia. The game sounds fun and hopefully they can get their dream game out instead of being always rushed and what not by publishers. I do not want the likes of EA or Atari getting there hands on this. EA has ruined a ton of game studios and do not get me started on what Atari as done to our beloved D&D Franchise.

I think Wizards of the Coast are to blame for what happened to D&D, actually.

The potential of this game is huge.
Now that the big publishers are out of the formula and won't hinder the development team,
let's hope the user base won't do so either. Feedback from the crowd is definitely a good thing as long as some stupid ideas don't make it to the game just because the devs have the impression that all people want it this way.

I already become frustrated just by reading comments of forum veterans on Obsidian's forums like 'BG1 and KotoR 1 being overrated and ME3 and DA2 being one of the better games of Bioware' and other stupid stuff.

I wish the devs would just isolate themselves for 3 years and make their dream game :)

Backed it in an instant without even looking at the introduction movie.

I know it sounds unreal, but like you say, it has big potential. If it lives up to at least a minor part of what they promise, it'll already be win for me.

Btw: Does anybody know someone who is willing to forge a ring like the one in the pj picture? It's an Ouroboros, and I've been looking for one for some years. Only one so far is some Ebay-affiliated company who creates a ring like it, but a very small one. Big thanks!

Glad to see this after the ****ing nothing that was The Broken Hourglass. A true IE successor would be glorious. Feels like an RPG renaissance, with so many legitimate-looking projects set to come out in the next few years. Made me nostalgic enough to post here!

I think they should have told us a bit more about the game though, rather than just relying on their reputations.

A thought struck me, wouldn't it be an interesting idea to maybe do a joint SP backing? Get SP in the credits and be the main resource for the game when it is released?

A cool idea. I guess you can try and find a total of 6 people, back for 1000$ (150+ a person) and design a "Sorcerer's Stone" item or something in name of the community.

Everyone would get a digital copy at least and some say in the item's stats. You will only have to divide the extra stuff amongst yourselves.

As for the game: wonder if they promise to keep it IE, as some people are already assuming it's going to be in 3D.

I always thought that buying a community's way into a game was particularly tacky, but if enough people would want to do it I'd consider it... the problem is, right now Avellone & co. are pretty much selling a dream without much substance to back it up and counting on their old glory to carry them through the entire money collection. Their KS was somewhat amateurish and poorly prepared - as if they either didn't believe in the project themselves OR were so sure they'd get more than enough money that they didn't even need to make a decent effort and prepare for it properly like pretty much everyone else who wants to be taken seriously.

There are also already dozens of communities who've put up collections to be included in the game one way or another and eh... my knee-jerk reaction to "me-too" lemming cliff diving is usually to walk the other way or to curiously look down from the fringes.

I'll make a poll about it though.
