I remembered the whiskey - Mackmyra single malt. It's a Swedish whiskey that you can only get in New York here in the states, as far as I know.

Do you mean translucent or actually colorless? No beer that I'm aware of is colorless. (Example - water is colorless, iced tea is translucent.)

Regardless of what you meant, that would leave virtually all hard alcohol off the list.

Colorless is what I said and what I meant. That refers to the hard alcohol. I don't really like vodka or gin, as I don't like their taste, and adding some sort of soda or tonic to it just makes it taste like soda or tonic with an undertaste of yuck.

As far as beer goes, if we are qualifying comments, I generally don't drink it if it's translucent, unless I am eating Indian or other spicy type foods, in which case a pale ale or darker is acceptable. For example, last night, I went out for my wife's birthday and we had excellent middle eastern food (with a nice kick), so I had the darkest thing they had on tap, which was Arrogant Bastard Ale. Pretty good.

(OT - Then we saw Billy Elliot, which was only so-so - music was insipid but the dancing was quite nice and the story held reasonably well to the movie. I'm not a musical goer, but it was my wife's birthday, so that's what we did. It was over after 11:00 so the kids were up pretty late and were moderately beastly this morning.)

OK - I thought you were talking exclusively about beer, and my first thought was "What the hell is colorless beer? Is there such a thing?"

    EDIT:

GASP! Here in the states, you'd be asked what other kind of beer is there?

Billy Elliott cracks me up. The lad who played him came to the college I went to for a look round. He demanded special treatment because he'd pranced round like a tart on screen...soon set him right about that...

Btw, Mesmero, do you use actual, original Beerenburg (double E) or similar stuff like Berenburg/Berenburger?
I guess there is no name for this drink. It would translate to something as spices and jenever. But foreigners refer to jenever as Dutch gin, which is an insult! :D Gin is cheap-ass jenever that invokes "Dutch courage". Thinking of that: Gin is to jenever as tea is to Panoramix/Getafix's magic potion. :p

I enjoy a wide range of beers and get bored if I have the same one over, so I like to have variety. But probably my most consistently favored beer, if I had to choose, is Speights Distinction.

My favorite drink is three fingers of Johnnie Walker Swing with one ice cube. Then I sit back and enjoy the world. When I visited Glascow Scotland went to the Johnnie Walker Distillery to see which wing I had paid for.:)

I've browsed a few whiskey web sites as a result of this thread, and I find it humorous that you always have to tell them how old you are before you can enter. (I am invariably born on January 1, 1900 whenever I have to do that.) Is viewing a picture of a bottle of whiskey like viewing pictures of naked women or something?

When I'm drinknig casually, I like a nice Amstel light.

When I'm drinking I like either a Blue Moon, a Fat Tire, Sam Adams Boston Lager or a Yuengling Lager/Black n Tan.

When I need a drink I go with the following.... a Pint glass + 2 Ice cubes + 2 oz. of Fresca and the rest Grey Goose Vodka. Stir and enjoy! Usually only need one or two fo those mammas!

He isn't. He's an Australian cyclist. Johnnie Walker is scotch, though. ;) :D

What..? You don't feel aroused after seeing these curvy bottles?

Hang on. How can Scotch come from anywhere other than Scotland? Otherwise, it's not scotch, is it?

I believe that's correct. Scotch is Scottish whiskey specifically. I think Aldeth didn't know Johnnie Walker was scotch.

Cripes people. I wish I never mentioned it in the first place. I am aware that scotch comes from Scotland, and yes, if it's not Scottish whiskey, it's not scotch.

I thought it was obvious from my comment - at least Gaear got it - that I was unaware that Johnny Walker was scotch. I knew it was whiskey, but not specifically Scottish whiskey. As per the definition of scotch, if I wasn't aware that it was scotch I was also unaware that it was Scottish, and made in Scotland.
