Overall I'm very pleased with what I know so far. My all time favorite games are going to have new life breathed into them, with what seems like an ultimate strategy to prove that Baldur's Gate 3 will be a viable, financially successful enterprise, in order to pave the way for its development.

    Almost giddy, actually.

How are you all taking the news?

So, so excited. I'm eager to return to the game after a long absence. Quietly hoping this means a re-release of Ps:T too... but I doubt it.

Tal, is it possible to turn this into a poll after it's already been posted? It might be a more useful way to obtain feedback, with options like:

    1. I am completely ecstatic about the announcement of BGEE.
    2. I am pleased about the announcement of BGEE.
    3. I am pleased about the announcement of BGEE, but I was hoping for something different.
    4. I am disappointed about the announcement of BGEE but will give it a chance.
    5. I hate the idea of BGEE, and I want nothing to do with it!
    6. I don’t have an opinion at all. I’m just here for the free milk and cookies? What? No cookies? Okay, please excuse me.

If not, I may just start that in a separate thread, as this thread has yet to take off.

Check under Thread Tools on top of your first post, I believe you have a few hours to add a poll.

[IMG] I thought I'd be pretty cool towards the whole thing. BG re-release? Big deal...

But as the counter got to about 45 minutes to go, I suddenly realised I was ridiculously excited.

I'm ecstatic about the rerelease and I could not tell you why really. I'm really enthused about it, and to be honest I'm wanting more info on the modding compatability side as well. Especailly when one of the Twitter comments mentioned that he regularly trolled G3 (Which took me a moment to realise he meant read through it rather than signed up and acted like a complete jackass to get a reaction... I hope he means the former anyway) I'm actually enthused to get one of my little projects finished when coursework isn't such a bother!

I sort of expected it to be honest. I didnt think BG3 was really an option - I still dont think it will ever be made. Or at least another solo D&D RPG game should not bear the Baldurs Gate name - the storyline is concluded at the end of TOB for me, BG3 would just be milking the cow.

I'm more pleased about the BG2EE than BGEE. Dont get me wrong, its great that BG is getting some attention, I just dont really care for the game.

Off topic - how is this going to play with GemRB? A lot of the point of GemRB was to allow BG to run on modern and/or non Windows computers. I suppose they cant even share code!

I am pleased that this is happening and I'm eager to see what improvements there will be.

I'm quite disappointed however that the project is not more ambitious; the Infinity Engine was designed in 1998 and releasing games based on that in 2012 is... underwhelming. There was a potential to make a new state-of-the-art game that would be a real, complete overhaul of the original in every way. In particular I was hoping for 3D graphics and either 3.5 or 4th edition rules. I'm a bit worried that what we'll end up getting is basically the same game in a new package, but it remains to be seen what the concrete improvements will be.

The most exciting news there is not BGEE, to me, it's the fact that this is all just a stepping stone towards an eventual BG3.

I don't get the excitement. I'd think that mods like Tutu and SCS or Improved Anvil would have more impact on gameplay than what they appear to want to do with this enhanced edition stuff.

If it's about higher resoltions, the widescreen mod already allows for that.

Without more news about what they're actually going to change from the original games, it's hard to care about this announcement.

Sorry, I fail to see the point of this. Those games were what they were. They've already been tweaked to high heaven by a zillion mods. You've all played the games so many times that any suspense or true role playing has long been lost in an artifial haze of pre-knowledge. Sounds like more of the same to me.

It seems they will upgrade the infinity engine quite abit, as well. So i am guessing if BG EE sells really well, it might open up for more games getting an upgrade. Or maybe even more similar games being made? i certainly hope so.

Using the Infinity Engine still? What's the point? Judgement massively reserved.

I'm looking forward to it. It's like tidying up the prints of an old film so it can be released on DVD. The only problem is I'm half way through a TUTU game and I've never finished it before. I'l probably abandon this until the EE comes out. It sounds like it'll be almost the same but with some glitches cleaned up.

How can you not be pleased? Unless the announcement was something like "we'll never make any game like this again", it could only be positive news. That said, I am moderately excited about it, but it won't turn into super-duper excited unless I know some specific facts. From what we do know, I'm very pleased, but we'll just have to wait and see. :D

I have to say I am a tad disappointed if the screens of the iPad (revealed yesterday) reflect the near finished game. There's hardly any difference in the game engine, and it's 2012.. feels like an attempt at profits with minimal changes to the game apart from a 'cleaner' look. That being said my judgement is still reserved, we've yet to see proper screenshots.

BG meets quad core high end pc with crossfire set-up at full HD resolution with all possible available eye candy?

Perhaps a bit much to ask but still.

I did two runs with Bg2, and stopped BG1 just before I got to Baldurs Gate. Part 1 just did not play that well, part 2 did.

It would take some doing to require specs like that.

This announcement just took me from ecstatic to somewhere between "I am disappointed about the announcement of BGEE but will give it a chance" and "I hate the idea of BGEE, and I want nothing to do with it!"

I mean... what we're talking about is primarily a mobile app based on that interview. I was very clear prior to the annoucement that a mobile app was on the list of things I was not interested in seeing. I was okay with a multi-platform release, but seeing now that the primary focus IS on the mobile app rather than PC (radical interface changes vs. not much new visually on the PC)... I feel slightly betrayed. Baldur's Gate is a MFing PC game!!!!!!!!!

Damn, just can't seem to win anymore where RPG games are concerned.

As far as GemRB is concerned, this won't affect us much. Mostly just revive and increase the user base a bit, as the engine changes will apparently be trivial.
The new content will likely work out of the box.

In a few years time, the state will likely return to where we are now too.

I myself am quite excited. I have probably spent more time on the Baldur's Gate series than any other game, including Dragon Age. Especially considering the countless hours I spent thinking (and dabbling) about how to make my own mod, which I *still* consider a goal.

That brings me to one of my topics of interest: how mod-friendly will/would the EE be? I have messed around with the Infinity Engine quite a bit, but I definitely do not consider myself an expert (yet). I'm almost afraid to say it, but a small part of me actually hopes the engine changes will be that trivial that I don't have to learn too much new stuff... :heh:
