When I try to confront Cythandria, Sarevok's lover, on the fifth floor, there are like 10 or 12 guys there, that immediatly attack when you enter the floor.
Looks like this fight cannot be won, cause you have absolutely bo room to move and they use range weapond with bad ammunition.
No walkthrough metions those adds on the 5th floor,

What did I do wrong? Did i probably miss something?

Any help would be greately appreciated !!

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like you're not fireballing enough.

Fireball more, and you should be fine :)

You're in Baldur's Gate City. There you can buy lots of magical stuff if needed.

If you have a cleric you can cast "animate dead" spells to keep them busy, archers don't shoot if someone is standing on their toes. Casters can also use wands, you can have Xan use a wand of monster summoning or a wand of fire for example. Everyone can use necklaces of missiles or potions of explosions.

For the battle it's useful to find out which enemies are most dangerous and have to be shot first. You can also try to find out which character position is attacked and put the best protected character equipped with boots of avoidance there.

It's a good idea to do all other quests you can do in or outside Baldur's Gate first to gain more XP and better equipment.

Doesn't Xan have Skull Trap? Just as good as Fireball.

Xan is a tricky mage to use, but he can heal himself with fire damage if you raise his fire resistance above 100% (his Moonblade should help). There are lots of ways to cast Fireball without actually having the spell in BG1, as kmonster mentioned.

Eh? Skull Trap has a wider AoE, no saving throw and does the same 1d6/Level damage as Fireball.

I think you misunderstand, BTA. It's a FIREBALL.

    Exploding Arrows

If you have any archers, the solution is Arrows of detonation. 3-4 of these bad boys and there will be a lot less enemies standing:D

When I confront Cythandria there is usually just her and a couple of Ogres so I'm a bit puzzled.
Then again the first time you visit this floor it is really quite hard. I have been known to take a very weak party and use stealth and invisibility to get everyone to the back of the area and fight the other way around from a better position. Makes fireballing easier!

And the more opponents there are the better it is to use charm and confusion so that they fight amongst themselves.

I always found arrows of detonation incredibly unpredictable, but then again, I rarely use auto-pause...

you could also equip all ranged weapons and when you go up choose one target to die and attack him with everything (including spells). Once the target dies run down the stairs. Heal yourself and the like. If some follow you down even better as they will be up close and you will be concentrated in firepower. Once ready go back up and repeat the process until eventually the group is small enough for you to handle.

Still I am also confused since when I go up it is just a few ogres not a large group of enemies. Also wands of fire are your friend (replace ranged attacks with wands of fire and the explosive potions whenever you can for even more damage and AOE).
