LA? When I hear of riots every year and people approaching a riot almost like they approach a picnic, I think Paris :D .

I have been saying for years that this will happen, the british public have got this idea that they dont have to answer to authority and whenever the police deal with violent disturbances they get crucified for being 'heavy handed', as Ive always said, the police cant win, if they do something they get ****, if they do nothing they get ****, now london is a warzone, and the police tactics are to stand there and have bricks thrown at them while they watch as buildings burn around them, for years the public have lopped off the balls of the police force when it comes to dealing with violence of this level, and now, the tax payer will pay for the damage.

the reason for this? its laughable that people try to claim that is is in response to the shooting of an armed man who was waving a gun at armed officers. Notice that the areas involved have strong ties/histories of gang related activity, this is a shopping spree and nothing more. the reason it is spreading across the country is because gangs in these other areas are thinking "why the fcuk didnt we think of that????"

I rather think that it is a symptom that something is really really wrong in the UK. Happy and content people do not really riot, need some pent up aggression to let out. Seems like the British public need some more bread and spectacle to stay placid or something could be tried that has rarely been tried and actually attempt to improve the situation for the great mass of poor alienated humans that exist in the UK and most everywhere. Now we see them rioting in Greece, Syria and the UK, a few years ago it was France and it is has been the US to an fro for decades. Either we lock things up like in China and other dictatorships and wait for the really big explosion or we actually try to aim for a society that is for everyone and not only for the smart and lucky ones.

These riots are not political... this is nothing but blatant theft and violence. Violent riots are common in the UK, plenty of people just like to fight and damage property, the other side of this is the looting, which is simply a shopping trip to these chavvy bastards.

Oh really, so the fact that the people who do that for the reasons you claim, these "chavs" are what they are and do what they do is not political? Have to love the disdain you seem to have for a group of your fellow humans, you do not think that is a problem? The attitude to these "chavs" the systematic ridicule and loathing shown the lower classes in the UK?

There's talk of postponing this weekends football because of the rioting. This isn't funny anymore.

    [IMG] Joa,

Do you know what a chav is?

A chav is someone who decides to apply for benefits because they don't *want* to work and causes issues when they don't get it. I've been in the job centres when people have kicked off after their applications are being rejected because they view it as their RIGHT to get money from the government even when they're employed or their partner is employed. I have seen chavs trying to get income support because they can't work as they're under sixteen and have to go to school and again cause hassle when they can't get it.

A chav wears an ASBO with pride, they have a "I'll do what I want" mentality that involves harrassing other people as that's what gets them recognition among their peers.

They'll also jump on any damn bandwagon they can to cause a bit of mayhem. The only politics they care about is what can they get from the government encouraged by the previous government that lowered the checks and regulations required to claim money, now they're being tightened back up they're throwing their toys out the pram.

I hold disdain for anybody who goes out with the intention to steal from their fellows and be proud of it, I hold disdain for anyone who goes out of their way to scare and intimidate others and I hold disdain for anyone who vandalises and destroys the property for others in a show of bravado.

There were arrests in Southampton last night of people attempting to start a riot, so here's hoping it doesn't actually kick off tonight

It's nothing to do with lower classes. It's nuisance trouble makers and gangs doing it because they find it fun.

[IMG] Not all of them, actually. Some of the worst chavs I've had the displeasure of meeting come from wealth and have plenty of their own money but still try and get away with being idiots who can do what they want whenever they want and annoy whoever they please and get away with it.

@ Joacquin - while there may be underlying political issues that created the situation, I haven't seen much of a political message in the riots themselves. It's like "rebels without a cause" just happened to find one.

I'm sorry Joa, but there is just no excuse for the way these people are behaving. They may well feel slighted by others in their society but rioting isn't going to get the sympathy of those of us who believe in common decency.

I am not talking about excuses, I am talking about reasons. Happy well adjusted people satisfied with their life do not go out and riot.

[IMG] Well if you can think of a reason that people have been threatening childrens' hospitals with fire bombs there are plenty of people that would be interested in knowing.

There have been idiots shouting that this is an attack against "the rich" by taking out local stores and cornershops - people from their own community who run small businesses. There are shouts that people are just "claiming their taxes back" again from mugging injured pedestrians and raiding shops, cars and homes. Some are still claiming it's for Mark Duggan. A majority are saying it's because they have no money, some even claiming BOREDOM.

The original riot started outside the police station had people interviewed asking what they hoped to achieve and one of the answers was "Well you're here, aren't you?" as a previous protest was ignored by the media.

The other riots are opportunism laced with whatever excuse is convenient at the time.

That's because these are not happy well adjusted people. They're groups of hooligans and thugs. Wannabee gangsters and thoughtless thieves & hoodies. Not normal every day people.
