    It's a bit of a sore point with me. Just a bit... :angel:

    I didn't check if I remembered the numbers right, but the point still stands even if your average salary is "only" 1/3 higher than ours. The fact of the matter is, given Greece's financial situation, your average salary should be lower than ours - a fact obvious to everyone except the population of Greece (fooled by your politicians, I'm sure). The fact that countries whose residents are making significantly less money than Greece's are bailing it out is a travesty - I'm sure you'd agree with me if it was the other way around.

    Our politicians are more clever than that - they've prepared us in advance by making sure to drop more or less obvious hints on a regular basis that they aren't keeping their hopes up that any of the money we send your way will ever be paid back. IIRC our financial minster said as much only a few days ago.

    Some countries' politicians go the other way by giving their people false hope even though they know full well that the money is as good as gone - the majority at least, if not all of it.

    @Barmy

    No problem.

    @Morgoroth

    I think you have missed that line from the official statement of the eurozone members:

    Where appropriate, a collateral arrangement will be put in place so as to cover the risk arising to euro area Member States from their guarantees to the EFSF.

    You understand economics, so you know what it means.

    The 1041 euros are the net salary (according to wikipedia again, you know if this is correct), meaning the amount that remains after the deduction of the taxes. So, 40 euros are not the one third. BTW, my salary is a little bit above the average. The average salary (net) ranges between 850-950 euros.

    I don't disagree with this, I'm pretty sure that if the situation was the other way around, the reaction of the majority of the people here would be the same as yours, "Why must we pay these lazy Slovenians?".

    See my answer to Morgoroth.

    Uh... you implied in your post that I should look at your salary as the average so I assumed that that's what it was. Since the average salary in Greece is apparently significantly lower than your salary, I don't know where our press is getting the figures indicating that you're being paid better than we are... maybe it was some calculations based on tax avoidance, benefits and similar.

    I'm not sure what part of the link is relevant - if you're posting sources in languages other than English (and especially if you're quoting said text), please provide a translation as well.

    Yes I am quite aware of that bit. The social democratic party in Finland claims credit for getting that one in the statement. It's awfully vague though and I'm skeptical of its real-life significance. The collateral has not been defined in any way and "where appropriate" could well equal to "never".
