Unless you eat at fast food joints on a regular basis, I very much doubt that anyone could claim that they got fat because of fast food.

What's nice about In-N-Out is that they use only fresh ingredients and everything is made to order, even the french fries. Their menu is very basic, on purpose. Hamburgers, fries (or chips as they are often called across the pond), a variety of soft drinks and some delicious ice cream shakes. They haven't been tempted to add the chicken, fish, salads, and countless other items that most other chains are selling.

It's fast food, without a doubt, but there's absolutely no comparison between McD and BK vs. In-N-Out.

You can get a double-double (2 pattys), fries and a shake for around 5 or 6 dollars. It's quite tasty. I don't often eat there since I'm trying to stay away from red meat for the most part these days, but in CA, when someone's in the mood for a burger, I know few people who would turn down an In-N-Out burger.

This applies to most things. You need to do them regularly. You cannot get fat from anything that you don't do (eat) regularly, basically.

Obesity is a big problem in the US. But I agree with Tal that most people who are extremely overweight are not overweight because they are eating daily and McD or BK. (I'm sure there are some, but not most.) Most people who are extremely overweight are that way because a lot of what they eat is unhealthy, even if they don't eat much fast food. They eat chips (crisps), soda, and other foods high in sugar and fat. And of course overeating will also contribute to obesity.

For the most part, BK, very rarely. Still, McD's has good fries. Never knew why 'til Food Network did a bit on how McD's does the fries....

Hard to say, I rate McD's Filet O' Fish and McChicken, but love the whoppers and their various derivatives at BK.

    A draw for me.

Yes, of course, it has more factors. And these fast food places are just one way of eating unhealthy food, of course. It's certainly about lifestyle as well, so a complex matter. All I tried to express is that visiting fast food places regularly is unhealthy, because fast food is less healthy than its properly prepared home-made/restaurant-made counterparts (e.g. in case of chicken).

I agree. The point I was making (rather poorly I guess) is that someone who regularly eats at McD's or BK likely does not make healthy lifestyle choices in other areas of his life as well. For example, I'd say the person who typically stops for fast food on his lunch break from work is unlikely to go home and make himself a salad for dinner. I'd also say that same person is more likely to watch TV when he gets home rather than go for a jog or workout.
