    I think that's because automatics have come a long way recently. Even 10 years ago, a V4 automatic = dog. The engine performance has improved on even the small cars with automatic transmissions.

    I drive a 2007 Saturn Vue, 6 cyl. The wife drives a 2011 Lexus RX(SUV). Traded in our 2002 Camry when purchasing the Lexus. The Lexus is nice, but a little too much for me. We use the Vue for trips though, as the kids kill the inside of the car on 10-plus hour rides.

    I have had 3 Monte Carlo SS from 85-87 models, a 85 Grnad national(Sweet ride) and a 70's Brown Hornet, my first piece of crap car. 2 of the Monte's and the GN were all stolen.

    You're brave. I have never tried to take Jack on a 10-hour car ride. He starts getting antsy after about 3-4 hours, especially now that naps are a thing of the past.

    Good god man! A garage sounds like it would be a solid investment!

    I'm not too much worried about performance - I just like driving the stick, especially around corners and I like taking the car out of gear while sitting at a light. A stick is just more fun, I think, except in heavy traffic.

    To see my parents, it's 14-15 hours to Bucks County, just north of Philly. My soon to be 2 yr old starts getting antsy after 40 minutes. Not a fun ride....

    I was young then and lived in a condo, no garage. Different times. Now I have a nice 2+ car garage. No more stealing my vehicles w/out me hearing you break in. Then, BWAMO! No more car thief!:D

    I have a Batavus Blockbuster for every day transport, a Colnago Competition for fun, a Cube AMS100 for offroad fun and an older Gazelle touring bike which I really need to replace sometime for something that I'll actually use.

    Oh yes, for long distance transport I have a Skoda Octavia.

    Yep. It's part of the "Compromise" I have to deal with when dealing with the wifey. You know, she want cat , I want a dog, so we compromise and get a cat.... she hates flying. I only give in due to the cost. I rather save the extra 800-1k and spend it the house. This years savings will allow me to redo my deck.

    No real difference; I don't understand why people think a manual is so bad in traffic. I can usually keep it in a low gear and just get on and off the gas to keep with the flow. And it's really easy to put it in neutral and have no feet on any pedal when the traffic is completely stopped.
