Desperately trying not to fail :mommy:

Hoping to go into software design... ideally the games industry as a lead designer but do I look like I can afford to be picky? :p

Also looking into the possibility of obtaining a grant to study a Masters in Artificial Intelligence as a basis of a doctorate later in life.

Currently working as an Import/Export Compliance Manager. I enjoy the owrk, but not the company I work for. Looking to jump ship soon. In the US, Import/Export compliance is the equivilant of anti-business laws in most countries. The controls the US gov't is putting on our shipping is getting ridiculous. I would never want to own an international company that does business in the US. Especially in the Military/Space racket.

Not my original goal, always wanted to be a professional pool player. But that costs too much bread and I now have no time to shoot anymore.

I'm a lawyer. Strangely enough, I like what I do, especially since I left my firm of 16 years last August and joined a buddy much closer to home. My commute is under 10 minutes and I wear T-shirts and jeans to work, as opposed to the suits I used to wear.

    I am, apparently, easily satisfied . . .

Been in IT for around 14 years, and in management for the last 8 of those. These days I mostly work from home, so it makes for an easy commute, but my current role is pretty intense.

There are things I love about my job, and things I don't. It's a pretty big diversion from my original idea of pursuing a career in music. I was "technically" a professional musician for a good handful of years (mostly my college years), but decided this wasn't the most financially sound direction, so turned to computers. My interest in computers was born out of my musical activities, so it seemed a rather natural shift (though not necessarily an easy one).

I look after the finances of a division of a bank. I tell the General Manager how profit his division is making. I also have to deal with people asking for more money for their departments' projects. I help decide if the bank is going to raise or lower interest rates. It's a pretty cool job.

I've had a load of different jobs over the years. However, the volunteer work I do now is the most satisfying thing ever. It's not the whole 'I volunteer and saving the world' bit, it's just the job. It's interesting, fun and makes a difference.

I've been told that about myself too. Although being easily satisfied is almost a prerequisite to being a husband and father. If you aren't, you'll soon learn to be at any rate. You quickly become accepting of the fact that you get yours last, and surprisingly don't begrudge the arrangement.

I work for the Army - specifically through the Department of Defense, on Major Defense Acquisition Programs - commonly referred to as MDAPs. My degree is in biochemistry, although you don't need to know any biochem to do this job - I'd say it provides some marginal help - if any. In fact, I do more writing reports than anything at this job - I probably would have been better off being an English major.

Also, in regards to being easily satisfied, I don't love my job, but I don't hate it either. That's not a slam against it - it's a decent job with a salary that provides for myself and my family. But I don't think I'd love whatever field I happened to get into. I'm more of a person who views his work as something I do to earn the money to do things I like to do more than working when I'm not working.

I know how to do my job well, I don't dread coming to work in the morning, and the pay is decent, which I guess is all you can ask for. I don't think that makes me particularly unusual or anything either. I think most people would prefer having more time to do the things they enjoy, which for most people would not include working more.

I am a teacher, mostly adult education. When everything works it is the best job ever. When it doesn't it is kinda dull. Not most monetary rewarding job but it is reasonably free and when you succeed it is really really nice.

Studying. Not sure what I'll be doing when I graduate. The odds point at financial auditing or accounting, but we'll see. I'd love to start a own firm some day but that's probably years off from now when I've gathered the proper experience. Another possibility is working for the public sector since I find myself a lot more interested in public sector economic management. Anyhoo I still have a year-year and a half left of studying so I'm not stressing out too much about what I'll be doing when I graduate, there are usually plenty of job opportunities in my field anyhow.

Nope, because my bank is still AA+ rated and therefore nevr got involved in any subprime mortgages or credit default swaps. We're a boring bank that gets deposits from people and lends it to other people who want a house. No fancy stuff that goes wrong here.

I could lend you a tenner, but I'm not sure what security you can provide, so I can protect my deposit-holders from loss.

I am thinking of swtiching over to our Data Management team, there's an oppurtunity popping up shortly, working with our engineers dealing with proprietary info with our Space Program division. Sounded very interesting and less stressful by far.

I'm an accountant, I basically act as the finance department for a warehouse with 1 full time and 1 part time assistant. Day to day I do invoicing and payments and each month I send off reports to the head office. There are also some ad hoc stuff that comes up, I spent a lot of the last week looking at the cost differences if one of our biggest customers was to change the specifications on what they buy.

It's not remotely sexy or exciting (and I'm talking by accounting standards) but it's been a great place to make the transition from working in a firm of accountants to being in the finance department of a company. It's usually like a small company but I still have PLC stuff to do for the head office and they're available to help me along if I need it. The expectation is that I'll have outgrown this role in 12-18 months and I've no idea what I'll do after that. Given how things are around here I could end up emigrating to find a new job but I hope not to.
