    Can't you at least make some origins plausible/inplausible? Isn't inconclusive evidence the main problem with human sciences as opposed to exact sciences?

    Of course I can, some views are on their origin are quite ridiculous and nowadays rejected.

    The problem is not the origin but rather its classification. As inherently mixed languages with no clear boundaries between the lexifer (the language whose vocabulary was used to form the basic vocabulary) and the syntaxer (" " whose syntax and grammar was used to form the basic syntax), it's difficult to attest whether or not x language is a creole .

    Another major problem is also a lack of universally accepted definition for "creole" "pidgin" and "mixed language" any creole is a mixed language but a mixed lan. isn't necessarily a creole.

    One definition of a creole is a standardized mixed languages that emerge from an (also ill-defined) pidgin that involved forceful relocation of people with varied linguistic and ethnic background. The standardization came from the children of those people.

    thus;

    varied "workforce"* language [syntax] + dominant language [vocabulary] = ad hoc unstructured pidgin which then become stabilized linguistically [creolization] by their descendant.

    Another definition of a creole is a mixed language that sprung naturally among a ethnically and linguistically varied population, but whose lexifer and syntaxer are geographically closed to one and another. Another important factor is that the linguistic mixing must have been from either economic or cultural pressure of another ethnic or linguistic group. Without those social factor the language is simply a mixed language.

    thus;

    Economic Pressure -- Population movement; dominant language A [lexifer] + dominant language B [syntaxer] = Creole language.

    In short the classification is difficult if not impossible because this area of linguistic socio-linguistic is inherently speculative... and nobody can even define those very terms that are essential to its study. Plus the process of creolization, thus its classification must have some sort of historical and social reasoning. Which is why so much research are inconclusive Yay !

    * an academic euphemism for slavery, it's really common knowledge that these creole came from slaves during colonial time.

    [IMG] I thought creole languages were basically pidgin languages that migrated?

    I had surgery today. There was suckage, then blessed amnesia, then quick recovery. I made a blog post if you want to read the details.
    Now to go take the good pain drugs and pass out.

    "Every once in a while you stumble into a written work that's pure gold, you might not like the characters, you might not like the main problem setting, the theme, the moral of the story or stories, but after reading through the work you find that the writer does have a point, it might be crass, it doesn't matter, but there is a point and the lines are delivered exceedingly well, so much so that it's obvious that the writer knows exactly what he or she is doing if not that he or she might be even considered as a genius in his/her own right."

    The painkillers I'm on make me room-spinningly drunk. I don't like it. If I'm going to get drunk, I want to enjoy getting there!

    If anyone hears a loud thump, don't worry. It's just me smashing my head on the desk as I collapse from exhaustion.

    I can't remember the last book I read that wasn't Uni related. :( Thought I'd get a copy of Asimov's the naked sun soon, I've heard good things about it. I love sci-fi, I figured I should read the classics.

    I bought the original Bioshock for 20$ today, the game's awesome so far.
