I do not totally agree with you there, Shoshino. I've seen snakes on telly that "wolfed" down antelopes and got killed later because they were immobile and vulnerable.
Also, Taza is visiting doctors. So I take it he's thinking about his future. Why see a doctor if you don't care about your future..? This is a bit off topic, though.

joacqin, I can understand if you view my opinions on this matter as condescending. It's hard for a lot of people express their "worries" without being so. But do you agree with me that a rising number of people with obesity is not a good sign?

 

I think admissions like that belong in the MUG....

 

In other words, "Medical term used in insulting manner to belittle, value judgement and assumption about my personal habits, more assumptions about my personal habits, condescending implication I am unaware of what is supposed to be good for me according to prevailing medical wisdom and too ignorant/stupid and therefore others know better than me" - did I leave anything out?

For the record, and I should not have to say any of this because people should not be judging me on extrenal factors alone, as non of this is any of ther business: I eat a healthy diet, no different from my "normal" friends in eeither consistency or volume. (Oh no, bad fatty will go to mc d's and not live off lettuce until skinny!) I exercise regularly - I have turned down a gym membership because the trainer giving me the tour was condescending and ignored my express wishes of no weight-loss talk, I was there to gain muscle. I will out-dance anyone I know. My doctor gives me a clean bill of health when it comes to cholestrol, blood pressure, liver, etc, etc - the only persistent health problems I have are hypermobility and back problems. Doctors refused to treat the latter because it "would be too dangerous" to operate on me under general anesthetic based on nothinbg but my BMI - while in the next breath offering weight loss surgery which would have been far more invasive and potentially deadly. (Operating on my chest to remove excess tissue vs. opening up my stomach and removing parts of my internal organs and mutilating me for the rest of my life)

Have you seen a housecat lately? Give an abundance of resources to any animal and they will eat for pleasure and not just sustenance. it is merely a matter of opportunity.

In the end this all boils down to: stop judging people. Stop trying to punish us for our "sins". What do fat people want? Respect and being treated as human beings. Our weight not being blamed for everything. Something as simple as yes, well-fitting attractive clothes. Not muu-muus in floral patterns because hey lets shame the fatty into not coming out of the house because no way canfat people be attractive or want to look good.

Dear God, 56 inch chests, hot sapphic action, is there any place better than SP? I think not!

I say people should be what they want to be and eat what they want to eat -- I refuse to count calories and nutrients just for the sake of adding another 2 years to my life. For the time I have, I want to enjoy it, and one thing I enjoy is eating. It doesn't do any damage to anyone else, as Tal mentioned no more than the injuries sustained by people who are doing sports, or alcoholics, or drug users, or other such people. If people find my large form unpleasant, they can pucker up and kiss my behind -- it's easy, THERE'S A LOT OF IT TO KISS!

I live a happy life. I would hazard that Arabwel does too, as do the other larger people who have posted here. Does our size give anyone to the right to talk down to us? It's one thing to tell someone who things something unhealthy is healthy "you are in denial, smoking/overeating/doing pot/humping without wrapping is a choice and is unhealthy" -- These things are all choices made for a variety of psychological reasons. But ask any smoker. They are aware that their actions are unhealthy, and they make the choice to smoke anyway. They don't need people to re-iterate it to them. They may need reminders that their actions have effects on others and that society has every right to hold thenm accountable for their choices (drunk driving, smoking around kids, infecting people knowingly with AIDS) but they are not morons and don't need to be patronized about what is happening to their own bodies. They know.

It comes down to a cost benefit analysis. I know that I should drop down to about 180 (I'm 240, BTW) but the energy and suffering required to get me down there isn't worth it. My overall quality of life (which I am the only one qualified to evaluate, BTW) is better above 180. I am willing to put the energy in to hit 205 or so, but the time, hassle, and lack of enjoyment in life required to hit the arbitrary 180 mark just isn't worth it.

I agree that some people are in denial about how much choice they have about their eating habits. I know that exercising self control is difficult, and I don't buy into the whole "it's totally beyond my control" argument. My counterargument is "unless you are very close to me, it's none of your frigging business!"

As for the close to me people, it's what I told my wife. i said "baby, you could pack on another 50 and I'd still love you and want to be with you. The thing is, you and I both know that you won't be around for very long if your weight stays over 350. I want you around for the long haul. So when you are ready to drop the weight, I'm here to support you. The ball's in your court."

And I left it at that. Hassling her, trying to control her food choices, blowing off her express wishes -- none of these things are good ideas or conducive to a harmonious relationship. None of which shows respect for her personal moral agency. All of which can possibly contribute to divorce #2 for old LKD, which is not something I want.

This is what I was trying to iterate earlier in the thread (badly, I might add). In that, I will say something and extend my hand if I'm worried about a loved one, but I won't hassle them and bug them constantly about it.

Also, when I say offer my hand to an obese person whom I love, I mean to the point where health problems are practically inevitable. Over 350-400 lb (non-body builder) types. I have nothing at all against these people; they can be the kindest, nicest, funnest people around. And that is exactly why I want to see them live longer. Not because they disgust me. The complete opposite: they can be amazing people.

If someone disgusts me, I could care less whether or not they live a long time: murderers, dehumanizing bullies, etc. For me, this is independent of weight, sexual orientation, race or any other superficial factor. Sadly, this isn't the case for everyone.

A little off topic, I find women with a little meat on their bones to be more attractive than paper thin models. Mostly I look at facial features though, and people on either end of the spectrum can be attractive to me (barring the very very extremes).
