Was this game released half finished? Epic problems.

    Hello all.

    I've got the limited edition with the cloth map and all, yet the game plays as if it was released while they were still building it. I've played all the BG's, IWD's, and the Original NWN + expansions to death, so was looking forward to a new game. But because of the problems I will not play it, it is the most user un-friendly thing in it's current state.

    Issues:
    - The three camera modes have different names and work differently than described in the manual.
    - The camera modes are the closest thing to unusable I have ever played. I spend most of my time unable to see what I'm attacking, or what is blocking my line of sight. It's like they were still working out how to work them when it was released. The cameras in NWN 1 worked better than this.
    - Right-clicking on an object brings up a tiny pic of the object with it's name. That's it. There is no radial menu like in NWN 1, no options of what you want to do to it. The only way to get rid of it is to RC on it again, and pray that nothing is underneath the picture, otherwise the pic is just replaced with the new one.

    Is there something wrong with my copy? Or is the game just retarded and I have to play through while gritting my teeth at being half blind and plagued by little floating boxes? I've installed all the patches. HELP!

    The answer is: Yes. Yes, the game was released half-finished. And it still is as far as I can tell. Yes, there is something wrong with your disc. It's those Obsidian and Atari labels. Yes, the game is retarded. And you apparently haven't even gotten to the part where it takes 5 seconds of battle to realize you pushed the 'Pause' button, at which time everyone is already dead.

    The thing you have to remember, the thing you have to quietly chant to yourself while you push the NWN2 box into a tiny, dark, dusty corner, is that it wasn't made by BioWare. Unfortunately, you shouldn't have expected any of BioWare's typical quality or shine, or even any of the features that were in NWN1. There's just no connection between them.

    Like Bioware hasn't released buggy games? I've not played NWN before patch 1.67, but from what I hear and the fact that there's been that many patches to begin with NWN wasn't exactly bug free either. And it still isn't bug free.

    I suppose when you're talking about quality and shine, you're conveniently forgetting the OC?

    Don't get me wrong, I loved NWN, but Bioware isn't exactly perfect either. And it isn't really because of Bioware that I liked NWN so much, it's more the community around it.

    Just make sure you update the game to the latest patch. It fixes many of the problems but not all of them. It is playable with the latest patch. Prior to that I was cursing at the game as well.

    You people complaining really need to figure out how to edit nwn2player.ini. It works wonders. Trust me.

    Exactly, these are the values that you need to change:

    Code:
    camera_mode=drunken_monkey
    enjoyable_gameplay=false
    npc_khelgar=irritating

    become
    Code:
    camera_mode=sane
    enjoyable_gameplay=true
    npc_khelgar=shutthehellup

    :p

    Those are your issues?

    Ahhh... kids these days don't know how good they have it. Back in the old days (2006), we had this little thing called NWN2 v1.0.

    Anyway, just put the camera on exploration mode. Works fine 99% of the time.

    As for right-click select on targets, it's a decent implementation of Focus. You'll be thankful for it when you start buffing everyone to hell and back.

    I haven't had a lot of those issues with NWN2, the camera modes are a little weird, but I would hardly say "closest thing to unusable I have ever played."

    The right-click menu never struck me as hard to close, mayhaps there is a logical solution to the issue that is eluding you. (I know I've had issues with games that were solved by something very simple.)

    There is no right-click 'menu', it only brings up the portrait. As for the rest of the problems, it sounds like there is no fix, since I do have the latest patches. It sounds like it's time to finish BG2 again.

    I didn`t notice too many bugs. Well...I did have one problem. The companions just didn`t follow my character after cutscenes. They just stood there doing nothing.

    NWN2 is notoriously buggy, there's no denying it. For the camera, I recommend the exploration one as its the most similar to NWN1. The other two just don't cut it and I sometimes wonder how they made it to retail. The lack of the incredible radial menu from NWN1 is a bugger, but the quickcast menu is pretty cool and works well in my opinion.

    Personally, what annoyed me most about that game is the terrible optimisation. They improved things a bit in patches, but the performance and load times are still worse than what I get on newer games that look much better.

    Anyway, that's Obsidian I guess. From what I hear about New Vegas, they haven't improved.

    "A bit" is a bit of an understatement.

    Upon release in '06 it was pretty much a slideshow (~10 fps) with all settings to their lowest at 800x600 on my 2.6GHz X2 5200+ with 2GB DDR2 and Geforce 8800 GTS. At those settings, the game looked worse than Half Life, which came out in 1998.

    Right now I'm over my sister's house and playing on my brother-in-law's computer which has worse specs than my 2006 system -- a 2.0GHz Athon 64 3500+ (single core!) with 1GB DDR and my hand-me-down Geforce 8800 GTS. Yet I'm seeing 25-30fps in Neverwinter at 1280x1024 with 8xAA, high ansio, high textures, and far draw distance. Shadows are still horribly optimized so they have to be at low, but still, the game looks 10x better with 3x the frame rate.

    Yes, load times are waaaay long especially given the small area sizes, and FPS is still quite low for the quality level, but let's not minimize just how bad a tragedy v1.0 was by downplaying the level of improvement.

    I was going to post, but I can't really improve on NOG's original reply. Classic. :lol:
