What's the deal with peppercorns?

    What ******* ever thought of putting peppercorns in food? You're enjoying a nice meal, and every so often bite down on a peppercorn, which gives you a mouthful of pepper and throws the whole taste off. It's the equivalent of dumping salt on your food after it's cooked. Half the meal tastes too bland, and the other half tastes way too salty.

    I have nothing against pepper, when it's evenly distributed through the food. But 'lumps' of pepper in the food? No thanks.

    [​IMG] If they're prepared and utilised properly then you shouldn't have the problem you describe.

    Dried peppercorns for cracking to sprinkle over food should be different to the ones cooked into sauces, pies and other meals which use fresher ones which diffuse some of the flavour evenly whilst still retaining a small firey core to taste.

    From the sound of it what you're eating has dried peppercorns or ones thrown in after cooking!

    Once, me and some friends went out to a Thai restaurant. I took something mildly spicy (according to the menu: 2 out of 5 peppers.)

    I thought I was going to die.

    I did get some hairs on my chest though.
