9 years ago today I was getting dressed to go to work and had the news on. I watched the planes hit the Twin Towers and I was thinking 'It's going to be a tough shift'. I worked in an airport at the time!

I remember that we had a blue washing basket and I was rooting around in the bottome of it for my tights as the planes hit.

Where were you? What were you doing?

No idea, at work probably. It wasn't a major issue in my life to be perfectly honest. Strange thread this one, Silvs!

I was in science class. Microbiology, I think. In high school. Someone walked in and talked to the teacher, and she turned on the TV (we had them in every classroom). Needless to say, class kind of stalled at that point.

Sitting at home at my computer when my sister called, I turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit. With all respect for the dead it was one of the most exciting days of my life, to see history unfold live before my eyes was thrilling.

I was talking to a friend this morning and she said that for most people 11/9 was one of those moments that nearly everyone would remember and know where they were...like when Princess Diana died or that American president that got shot (sorry, can't remeber his name). It just got me wondering

We're used to terrorism in this country. I'm totally indifferent about terrorism in another country, to be honest. No-one I knew was there.

I was at work, and one of my co-workers came into my office and asked me if I heard about the kamikaze pilot who flew into the WTC. I thought he was joking...

I was at work when a colleague came through the office asking if we'd heard there was a fire at the World Trade Center. The first thing I thought of was the old movie High Rise. Then we heard rumours that a plane had hit one of the towers, or both towers, or that TWO planes had hit the towers.

Finally, another colleague called home to ask his wife what was happening. When I heard him say, "Pentagon?? What do you mean, the Pentagon?" I knew something was very wrong. He then hung up, turned around and told us, "My wife says the Pentagon's been hit by a plane!" That's when I knew just how very wrong things were.

I think I used an expression very much like the one LKD used. Or worse.

Yes, it was a moment of history for the US, and not a good one. For the rest of the world, unless you were high up in business or the stock exchange or the like, I don't expect anything more than, "That's what they started that war over, wasn't it?"

I was at home that day, I had holidays, and I was iirc playing Baldur's Gate that morning, and I came down and flipped on TV - it must have been around 10:30 - while I got myself a cup of coffee and saw the video of the first aircraft hitting and I immediately thought to myself that this was really bad and that it was going to get worse. Indeed.

Saw the picture of the two rays of light over Manhattan today. Touching.

The WTC was felt around the world NOG.

My wife is downstairs watching program after program about it, she was deeply effected.

Me on the other hand, I was going through a depression spot in my life at the time, didnt really mean much to me.

I was coming off a night shift, and I first saw the burning hole in the WTC from the first plane as I was walking past a TV on the way to do something else before I left, and the talking head was saying something about a "small private plane." Didn't think much about it at the time, but then it all quickly changed with the second plane, etc.

Later as I was driving home, I heard about the pentagon on the radio. Then I watched the news coverage at home until the towers came down, and then I went to bed. Sad day.

I was asleep. Mrs. Chandos came in and woke me, saying, "Something terrible has happened." I had just sat down in front of the TV, with my coffee, when the second tower fell...I could not believe what I was seeing.

I was home sick. I remember I was laying on the couch feeling miserable when Mrs. Snook came home from dropping off little Snook at school. She came in and told me something terrible was happening and to turn on the television. I remember watching for about an hour and then turning off the sound as the talking heads were driving me crazy. I then found out that Howard Stern was still broadcasting live from New York and the Boston station was going to stay with him as long as they had a satellite feed. His show probably was the most informative of everything we watched.

I can pinpoint that day as the day Mrs. Snook started to cross over to the dark side and become a conservative.

I was on the road to work and a friend called me on my cell. We spent most of that day watching TV at work and getting nothing done. We were basically transfixed by it -- morbidly horrible.
