4-1 Germany now. What a complete disaster for England but those breaks from Germany are stunning and with such pace.

See now what 'no technology' policy in football can deliver.

A completely deserved win for Germany. Those younger players are amazing. The way they were stringing those passes together was nuts. I agree with Shoshino though that that bs call the ref made will be the thing this game is remembered for.

Ah that's not fair. They're largely a bunch of cantankerous oul lads who spend their time giving out that things aren't as good as they were in their day. They'll slate pretty much any team who isn't Barcelona. They still refuse to accept that Ronaldo is a top class player rather than a show pony. Great entertainment though.

4-1 was a fair scoreline. England's ball retention, even when playing well, is very poor for a team of its quality. The midfield just has no creativity and they can't link the play at all. It's interesting that the most impressive teams (Brazil, Argentina, Germany) have all selected teams that play well together as opposed to picking all the big names.

So...since the US got F***ed up the A** by Ghana...does that mean that the US team now has Ghanarrhea? :p

Germany delivered a wonderful match. I am delighted. And what a result.

What really struck me the first twenty minutes was that there was no trace left of the anxiety that characterised the German team in the match against Ghana. They had a formidable start, it was a joy to watch.

That Lampard goal, well, Germany was lucky, and that is how it goes in football. Grand Drama! If you Brits insist on being disgruntled about it, I propose we could eventually call it even after that fateful day at Wembley. The game would have been more difficult for Germany had England been given the goal, but alas, they weren't and so the German team was able to play more freely in the second half.

I now really think they knew the Brits would come for them after the second half and they just rode out the storm. That requires nerves. Then they managed to score the 3:1 and them 4:1 in quick succession, nice goals for that.

I really liked what I saw today, a fast paced match with Germany showing tactically and technically excellent football, and with the German team realising their chances quite cold bloodedly. Brilliant. Toward the end there was a period of about five minutes in which the English not even once got the ball? Germany was the better team and deserved to win. IMO about the best game in this championship that I've seen so far.

Only drawback is that I am slightly sick and thus won't have a beer on that win. Cheers anyway!

That was pathetic. Abject and pathetic. The defending was unbelievably bad. If my team, Chesterfield, who play in the 4th tier of English football defended that way I would be annoyed... but international football players? Forget that Lampard 'goal' that was irrelevant, they shouldn't even have had 2 goals by that point, it was schoolboy defending.

There really nothing to defend, or complain about with that game... if it was close, then yeah, blame this and that... but 4-1, leaving players totally unmarked and in open space... just far too easy from Germany, and pathetic from England.

I'm totally dejected to be honest... I don't know what to do with myself... All that hope, all that effort, all that heart put into it by us supporters, then that GARBAGE served up by those useless bunch of idiots... it was painful to behold. Usually I kick and scream and complain about things after an defeat, but that?... just nothing there, nothing... lost soul... 4 years wait, for that.

Translation to American Football: Germay kicks off and England create a good drive that is stopped on the 40 yard line of Germany. Germany returns the punt from the 3 yard line for a touchdown. England starts a second drive with good running game and short passing, until it is intercepted for the second touchdown. A sloppy throw and bad tackling. End of the first quarter.

The second quarter is even and England scores a rushing touchdown. The referee make a mistake and some idiot(Blatter)lets it happen by refusing a replaysystem. The 30 yard touchdown completion is called back on a wrong penalty. Half time 14-7.

Second half, England makes a few good drives but does not score in the red-zone. Germany waits and gets is change and return an other interception for 21-7. The entire second half England does not score and the German defence holds, while scoring the final touchdown. 28-7.

We Dutch most of the time have similar experiences. Secretly we hope different, but deep inside our hart we now that our team will **** up again like they always do, and the ones you h-dislike get the spoils.

Did England not learn its lesson from 1990? They will get far unless.... Well Princess Maxima is from Argentina so it is allowed to cheer for them. Just for the You-Tube moment to see him running through the street in his birthday suit.

Couldn't find a snazzy picture this time, but the octopus hasn't been wrong yet. :D

    4 out of 4!

I wonder if cephalopod mollusks can place bets for themselves?

Watched way too little of the matches myself to comment. Hope to get more time in July.

You know how it is with sport. Sometimes one score can make a different ball game.

Fact, 2-2 would have given the momentum to England, and the way Germany plays is not good when you are behind. Still, Germany would have won.
