Octopussy, my favourite line: "that's my little octopussy."

American Gangster, is it just me or does Denzel Washington speak just like Morgan Freeman?

Missing (Costa-Gavras) a film about the coup in Chile in 1973, Jack Lemmon gives an outstanding performance.

    The Hangover - Freaking Hilarious!

Fallen - Seen it before, but the story keeps my attention anyway.

Spartacus: Blood & Sand - Series, not a movie. I watched hte 1st five episodes, not bad action, the Theocles character is AWESOME in the fifth episode!

Signs - another one that keeps my attention, though I have previously viewed it. I have a cousin in the movie, he is one of the Rescue Squad at the scene of the accident, you see his face for a whole split second.

Took my daughter to see the Percy Jackson movie. We both hated it (it really was a steaming pile of excrement, notwithstanding the talent attached to it).

To me, the book is sort of an OK rip off of Harry Potter with a couple of clever bits in there that make it interesting, where I felt the clever bits were pretty front loaded in the book. The geniuses who made the movie completely removed the clever bits, aged the characters so they could be sappy late teens, added crap for no real reason that I could see and completely scoured any mention of the lurking super bad guy that made the whole thing at least reasonably tie together (plus taking out the entire appearance of Ares which I thought was some of the better stuff towards the end of the book).

My daughter (who is 9), basically belted out all of that stuff as well. (Plus, she got hung up on the fact that Annabeth's hair is supposed to be blond and her eyes were supposed to be gray -- I got hung up on the fact that she looked rocking in her armor -- good thing I kept my mouth shut on that ;))

    Bad Lieutenant w. Cage

[IMG] Good grief, there is a remake of 'Bad Lieutenant' coming to the theatres the next months or so, with ultra douchebag Nicholas Cage 'starring'.

I guess it has to be called that because in my experience with that guy actual acting isn't involved. Last time I watched him play a bad guy he needed to have a beard. Beard aaaaad! Booh! I didn't see whether he has a beard or at least stubbles this time, because I didn't look at the movie poster too clossely as I got annoyed immediately.

And then, is Hollywood incapable of finding new scripts that they have to revamp old ones all the time? I mean, yes, Cage is broke, and he needs the money, all understandable, but the phenomenon isn't limited to him. Wasn't 'Inglorious Basterds" by an American director with American stars already, we'd see a remake next year. You Americans are all nuts. All of you. Boycott the botox freaks! Go see decent movies! Even when you don't know the actors! Cut the remake crap. It's unworthy of what American cinema is capable of! Revolution! Long live the underground cinema!

And anyway, what was wrong with the with the original flick with Harvey Keitel? Geez.

Definitely a movie I am not going to see.

    /rant :)

That's bad but it's old news. I really find that Cage's movies are getting worse with the years. Leaving Las Vegas was a fantastic movie and he pulled off some real good parts in the past but with the Benjamin Gates stuff, the Wicker Man and now this he is really losing any credibility he once had and it's sad really.

There are some very good American films though: "Death to mainstream cinema!"

I've watched Jean-Jacques Annaud's His Majesty Minor. It's a very funny movie that some people are bound to find outrageous but if you can find it, watch it. It's really good. Jean-Jacques Annaud is a very interesting director and probably one of the best French directors.

Harvey was great in the original. Cage will never pull it off, he isn't that type of actor. He can't pull off the "Tough Guy" persona.

No, he has that puppy look imprinted, probably forever botoxed, in his face.

If my dislike appears to ring through, that probably is because I dislike him :)

Ah, and the movie where he needed a beard to play the bad guy was 'Kiss of Death' with David Caruso. Another remake btw.

On a related note, one of the IMO the most hilarious transition in movies from bad to good guy was Vin Diesel in 'A Man Apart' - as the somewhat bad guy he had a beard and looked veeeeery sinister. When he became good again he shaved, probably to make sure the audience would notice :shake:

Speaking of actors transitioning from bad guy to good guy, or vice versa, I always liked Brad Pitt as "Early" in the movie Kalifornia. That is one effed up character! Though I thought he looked the Achilles part in Troy, his acting was rather weak. The actor who portrayed Agememnon(sp?) was excellent. What a ruthless bastard!:)

Kiss of Death is certainly not that bad, after all it was directed by Barbet Schroeder.

Pre Botox Cage was good in Face Off. I liked his over the top attitude in the first part of this movie. He was really good showing off in Snake Eyes too. What can I say, I used to like his acting.

I shudder at the mention of Ghost Rider though... an appalling movie if there was one.

Why would anyone want to remake Bad Lieutenant? The saddest part is that Werner Herzog is a great director (watching Stroszek as a teenager left a lasting impression on me). How can it compare to Abel Ferrara's movie?

Brian Cox is absolutely great. I actually prefer his interpretation of Hannibal Lecktor in Michael Mann's Manhunter to Anthony Hopkins's in the Silence of the Lamb. It's less grotesque and certainly more frightening IMO.

Kalifornia is a very good movie indeed.

It's interesting timing, in that a friend and I went over Cage's imdb list just this last weekend to figure out his official "record" in movies either of us had seen. We agreed that if only one of us saw the movie, that person's opinion held no matter what, but if we both saw it and disagreed, we could argue to try to convince the other and, barring a change of heart, would score it a "draw" (scoring was win/lose/draw, where a win was given if we thought he added something to the movie, actually acted well in the movie [a rarity] or was sooo bad as to bring it around to good, lose and draw are pretty self-explanatory).

    The results:

5-14-1 (we realized that we essentially stopped seeing his movies except on cable by the late '90's), where the 1 was Fast Times, in that we loved the movie but he was nothing in it. Originally, Con Air was in the draw column, but I was able to convince him that it was so frickin' terrible and so horribly acted, and had a decent enough cast, that Cage's influence so permeated the movie as to turn it from bad to good. Any time someone like Cage can drag down the likes of John Cusack, John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi, an up and coming Dave Chappelle and Ving Rhames, you have to consider it as potential gold. It's like a fart that permeates the whole room -- in the wrong circumstances, it's an inexcusable breach of etiquette, but in the right circumstances, it's comedy gold.

We almost gave two losses for City of Angels, but remembered that Dennis Franz was good enough to offset how bad Cage and Ryan were, so we left it at one loss. The National Treasure movies deserved two losses each, but because there were two of them, we were mollified that they added up to two losses.

And remember that this was a guy soooo on his way up with Raising Arizona and Moonstruck. Wild at Heart was a perfectly acceptable film to take where he was at the time. Then he fell into a pit of crap for five years until he made Leaving Las Vegas, stunk it up with The Rock, was so bad it was good in Con Air, Face Off was fine, and then it was the long slide into oblivion, starting with City of Angels and Snake Eyes. Ugh.

Aw, you just had to mention Wild at Heart. Hate that movie.

Anyway, I just watched The Dark with Sean Bean and Maria Bello. Pretty decent supernatural thriller.

    I love it. :)

The last movie with Nicolas Cage that I really liked was Lord of War.

I've just watched A View to a Kill. It's the first Bond I saw in a movie theatre (I was really young) so I have fond memories of this Bond movie. Tanya Roberts keeps screaming it's really distracting. :shake:

The last decent flick David Lynch made was The Elephant Man. But I should be grateful he didn't use Kyle MacLachlan in Wild at Heart or any of his later flicks. :D

A View to a Kill is pretty decent. Christopher Walken as the bad guy is always a good choice. Grace Jones is a better singer than actor, but she was so-so. And Duran Duran did a nice job with the opening theme. Oh and that car chase with the fire truck! Nice! :D

Last night we watched 2012. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Yes, there were quite a few scenes that were beyond realistic. The funny thing was I had more trouble with the realism of people getting cellphone calls while being inside a mountain after the world has basically collapsed then someone driving a car through collapsing buildings :)

Well, to each his own. I've seen The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Dune.

For me David Lynch is what Tim Burton would be if he were on bad acid, metaamphetamine, and mushrooms. And I don't think Kyle MacLachlan could act even if his life depended on it. But that's just me. :D

Saw The Pacifier today. While it is a Disney family movie, I got some laughs out of it. And I like Vin Diesel.

I'm with Triactus on this one (did I mention that I love Wild at Heart) you should definitely consider adding Twin Peaks to this list. ;)

I've watched The Living Daylights. Maryam d'Abo is a very good Bond girl (especially compared to the ones in the previous Bond) and Timothy Dalton brings some nice elements to the character, in this movie his Bond is definitely a more brooding and serious Bond than Moore's but he is still charming and charismatic. The supporting cast is very competent (especially the Russians, Felix Leiter is rather bland but he is the exception). I wish I had so many nice things to post about the next Bond on my list...

I would like to, exept that I'm waiting to see the series before seeing the movie. I guess at our TV DVD age, it shouldn't be a problem. I should get to that... :)
