Worked 47 hours this week, scheduled for 55 next.

Almost all of it is dish-washing.

    Blarghh.

With some luck, I'll be moving out soon, so I desperately need a job. Fortunately, one place agreed to give me an audition on Thursday to see how I go. I seriously hope I get it, because I've sunk so low as to hand an application form to bloody McDonald's.

[IMG] I have a lesson that I have been told is in a particular room by three different people... I know it's not in that room though. I've been in that room and I know the lecturer and lesson - it's not the one I'm meant to be in. Third Year Art is different from First Year Databases in a rather noticable manner.

Also my student overdraft has been rejected. For dumb reasons. I was told I had a student overdraft in October. The end of November I dipped below £0, the payment failed and I got charged. I got in contact with the bank who said I wasn't supposed to be told I had an overdraft, as I was supposed to be asked for further information. Okay, grand, I have all the information here, here, take a look. Oh, we can't give you an overdraft... why not? Well a payment failed in November so you're not elligable anymore. Bastards.

On the upside I have found out I *may* be elligable for housing support and I need to get in touch with the local council to find out more. My loan simply doesn't cover £450 flat rent per month.

    Toxicology test on Saturday.

Judging by some of the questions, it's the kind of test where they inquire about footnotes and the stuff that usually gets classified as a "no way in the Nine Hells this is a question possibility" on the first, second and third read.

Do they really want to teach us about poisons to this extent, two weeks before February exams hit?

OTOH, a question on pharmacokinetics once involved listing the CYP450 isoenzymes content in human liver in types and percentages... Yikes.

Teaching stressed students about how to make poisons and then making a tough exam is NOT a good recipe for long life and good health

Seriously, all the best! I'm sure you'll do fine :)

So I'm pretty sure I got a job. However, since they're apparently a bit dodgy, my wage is only going to be $9/hr (minimum wage here is $12.50/hr).

I mean, I don't like getting underpaid, but technically it won't make much difference to how much I can actually get a weak because of how student allowance works here (too lazy to explain). Since I'm moving out, I desperately need a job, and I guess one measly, dodgy, underpaid job is better than a well-paid nonexistent one.

    Still.

I earlier was put on ''probation'' for three weeks (so for the last thrre weeks of January.). I had a talk with the producer, a.k.a. big boss last wednesday, and reading between lines, I'm off that hook and a full part of the team. In fact, every person, individually, came to me and told me how happy they were that I was there and what a difference I was making. In these two weeks, I also went from a production assistant no a three week probation to an assistant-editor, to an assistant director and I learned tonight that I was promoted to director of post-production...

The downside of the job is that I'm spending a whole lot of dough on gas (driving 2H 30 min per day), but in the job I had for the past two years, I was an assistant, a.k.a. being told what I had to do. Now, I feel like a person, like my opinion matters and that people listen to me. What is ever better, I was talking to an old collegue of mine, and I learned that I am being paid peanuts to what I could be making. I am supposed to negotiate a new contract in a couple of weeks. I will be making a whole lot more, that is a promise...

Work's winter party was tonight. I took Jessica (half because I want to hang out with her, and half to keep up appearances). The location was actually pretty cool. The food was decent. Playing the new Super Mario Bro's on the Wii with a 100" screen was sweet. The people sucked.

I mean, I have to work with these a**holes, why would I want to eat/mingle/play with them...especially when there's booze available? It's a good thing I didn't drink - a fist fight *would* have happened. :bad:

I should have skipped work on Saturday so I could have gone with the 2 shifts on the other end of the week. I actually like the people on 1st shift. 2nd shift can burn in hell, but I'd rather hang out with 1st & 2nd shifts than 3rd (mine) and 4th shifts.

I mentioned to a colleague today that I had the flu in early January. She replied: "Why?" How pertinent! I answered that it was in all probability because I got infected.

So much work this semester - multiple video projects, 5 classes (I have to watch 3 movies a week and read an entire play/book each week in addition to all the regular homework -.-). Plus, I need to make more time for my friends. So, this semester will be sleepless. Oh well. Yay 5-hour energy shots!

Not allowed back at work until I'm certified by a doctor as non-contagious. Not only that, but at the restaurant I'm only scheduled for two shifts next week. The result being that I've gone from working 50 hours a week, to just 25.

All I had was a fever, so it's kind of ridiculous. Called in one morning because I was at 101.3 or so (my normal temp is 97.8 abouts) just to warn that I might not be able to go in. Was turned away, then told the next day that I had to be certified clean and fresh.

I've got an interview for an Etch Tech (line maintenance) job tonight!!!

I'm not really exicted about working on machines that are filled with H2SO4, H2O2 30%, HF, NH4OH, and other nasty acids...but it's better than being a lowly operator. :heh:

Well good news Kit, the only one above there that is an acid is H2SO4! ;)

Frankly the worse one is NH4OH. That stuff STINKS and has a nasty habit of killing your inner nasal lining if you breathe it. On the bright side, since it smells so badly, you WILL know if you're breathing it...

I think you missed the HF, Ziad. Sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid are both nasty. The ammonium hydroxide is a pain in the ass to work with (the odor is terrible) and can really do a number to you, but the 30% hydrogen peroxide is not as bad as the others.

I'm surprised they don't use nitric acid anymore.

HF, that would then be hydrogen fluoride, or rather hydrofluoric acid? Used to etch glass? Nasty stuff that, too.
Three cheers on safety in the workplace procedures.
