So I've got Morigan's quest to:
    kill Flemeth.
It took me awhile to figure out that you can't have her in the party when you go back...but that aside, I took me (a lvl 14 Warrior), Wynne, Shale, and Allister...and OMFG!!!! She's
a F***ING DRAGON!!!!!! :jawdrop:
Now, I've dealt with such things before, but this time, I get my arse handed to me every single attempt. I've tried different tactics, different party members, hell...I even acted like a coward and dropped the difficulty down to easy....and still no luck. :bad:

    So my questions are:
To continue the Morrigan romance, do I have to complete this quest? Or is the romance as far as it will go once
    you F*** her?

What level would you recommend I attempt this at?

My usual tactic for times like this it to use vulnerability hex + cone of cold and have my two favorite tanks whack away as Wynne heals as needed...but seeing as how my favorite apostate can't be in the party, I'm kind of screwed.

    That's pretty much it, yes.

    As for Flemeth herself:
As for actually killing Flemeth you are not exactly making it easier on yourself with such a melee heavy party :p. If you've leveled Leliana as an archer I'd consider swapping Alistair out for her and have Shale tank Flemeth. Shale is excellent for tanking Flemeth with stoneheart and fire resistance crystal. On top of that she cannot use her grab attack on him.

It should certainly be doable at that level if you bring plenty of mana and healing pots with you. Consider using tactics to have your characters use the pots at at 75ish %. Have Wynne focus on healing solely. Don't waste time and mana on dpsing.

If You're not having shale tank her you should bring Greater Fire Balms for your tank.

Make sure that your melee dpsers are flanking her so you can avoid getting caught in her fire breath or tail sweep.

If Wynne has the spell force field be sure to use it on whoever Flemeth grabs (imho force field is actually almost essential here).

I took down Flemeth at level 12...
... fairly easily my 4th attempt (I tried many different party combos until I got it right). Surrounding her with tanks and melee is a mistake. If your PC warrior is a tank (i.e., sword and shield damage soaker) like mine was, choose him, your two best archers (for me, Zevran and Leliana) and Wynn. If your main character isn't a tank, switch him to a bow and use Alistair instead of Zevran.

The trick is to get flemeth focused on 1 character who can take a beating: your tank. Buff him up with heat balms and any fire-resistance gear you have. Then at the outset of the battle, have your tank run towards Flemeth and run around her so her back is to the rest of your party, and have the rest of your party run in the opposite direction, to ensure that Flemeth only targets your tank. Then once you're engaged, have your archers start pelting away. If one of your characters is an Assassin, mark of death works well here. Wynne's job is simple: heal, buff and resurrect your tank, and only attack when the tank is at full HP (which won't be often) or when the Dragon gets your tank in it's jaws and makes you a chew toy. She's the only one who can break the hold with a Stone Fist or, if you've made her this way, cold spells (Stone Fist often works). Your tank should use a healing poultice every 2-3 sword swings to stay above 70% health. Slowly but surely, you'll take Flemeth down and nobody dies.
Edit: Olimikrig's tips regarding the use of Shale seem very solid, though I've never tried it. That may be your best bet.

    As for Morrigan...
...in my case, we were in a relationship, already slept together, and I had her at 90% approval by the time I finished the mage tower (what can I say, I'm smooth like that). Finishing this quest made her fall in love, which offers a conversation where she gives you an opportunity to break off the relationship for a minimal loss of approval. She does not sleep with you if she is in love. In my game, I took advantage of this, so I could have a guilt-free fling with Leliana, saw in through, and broke up with her sometime around Orzammar and got back together with Morrigan (one of her romance-initiating "special gifts" can be found from a merchant in Orzammar).

    Hope that helps!

    Another way around Flemeth

Don't kill her and fool Morrigan. Killing or not killing Flemeth has no real impact to the end of the game or what will happen between the PC and Morrigan. The only thing that will force Morrigan to leave is if you tell her to go or
if a GW does not sleep with her towards the end of the game.

As for killing her. The lower level the PC is the easier it is to kill Flemeth. The higher level your PC is the harder it is to kill her. The game adjusts the level of enemies for each area based on the level of the PC.

I found having two tanks and two ranged attackers the easiest way to take her down.
    Best weapon against Flemeth
Cold based spells do serious damage against all dragons. That is probably why Morrigan cannot tag along, since she starts off with Cold based spells.

Hmmm....I'll try taking Leliana, Zevran, and Wynne. I'm going to have to lvl both Leliana and Zevran up just a bit so they can use the bows I've been holding on to for some time now.

If you can equip one or both of the them with ice arrows, that'll help speed things along.

I thought the battle was very easy. I won it on the first try in a quite similar way as Death Rabbit did. I did not need potions that much either except for the occasional healing or lyrium potion. Just have your archers fire at her while a tank keeps her busy. This was on normal difficulty. Also this seemed to be a valid tactic for other similar enemies. Others just move a bit more making it a bit more difficult.

I find mages and archers to be quite useful in the game especially now that I'm playing a tank.

Indeed. Most powerful group I've played was 3 mages and a tank. Spell combos galore! :p

The easiest way I found to do it is to

Equip an archer character with Wade's superior drakescale armor (for the 75% fire resistance) and just pelt her with arrows from one person. Have the other characters stand away and just heal with poultices or Wynne every so often. If she buffets you, just run back and away. It's extremely easy, but takes a few minutes to do.

Another way to build fire resistance is to
get the Juggernaut Armour (Brescillian Ruins) + Ring of Ages (in Wonders of Thedas, Denerim) + use a lesser warmth balm

My PC has the Juggernaut Armor, and Allister has the Templar Armor right now, but he's almost strong enough to wear my old Blood Dragon Armor.

As for arrows, I've been using nothing but Elven Flight arrows...totally forgot about the ice arrows in my pack. :skeptic:

Also, I've got a few dragon scales in my pack, which I assume can be made in to the armor that Ironmancal2131 mentioned....but where the heck do I get it forged at?

I managed to kill her off yesterday. Got her in the first attemt. My party was around level 16 though. Left me quite stunned, to be honest. First time ever that i have killed "an enemy of her kind", in the first attemt, in any crpg.

My main char is a dual wielding fighter. Had Alistair with me, and the dog. With Wynne staying back and casting healing spells and cone of cold etc. My main character hit the dirt fairly early, but Dog certainly delivered in that particular fight.

Truth be told though, i am convinced i was very very lucky in that fight. Was one of those times where everything just went perfectly.

Iirc I had main char (fighter), Leliana, Wynne and Sten. Also, iirc around level 16 or 18. Wynne was indispensable.

    As for the scales,
why not try the smith who forged you the drake skin armour?

I just killed her, brought a naked assassin and he and the dog died pretty much instantly and then my pc mage (without any frost magic) and Shale tanked and spanked Flemeth with liberal use of healing poultices.

    Kitrax:

    Try Wade's Emporium in Denerim

Ragusa I'm fairly certain Kitrax was referring to the Blood Dragon Armor DLC and not Wades Drakeskin.

Yay! I finally killed her!

I used my PC as a tank, Allister and Leliana stood back and used ice arrows. Leliana used Frost Bombs whenever she was able to. Wynne did nothing but heal/revive my PC.

Now I have no lyrium. :( Anyone know where I can buy it in bulk? :hmm:

Generally cheaper to use healing poultices instead of spam healing and using up all your lyrium potions or at least mix em. I know yuo can get an unlimited amount of the materials to make healing poultices and it is cheap so that is what I do. I am running a two mage party and have never really run out of lyrium pots. I am starting to pump up my PC's constitution now though so she can utilize the bloodmagic some more but her mana pool is rather massive so it is only in longer battles it will be needed unless I want to use these nifty bloodmagic abilities.

The quartermaster in the mage tower has unlimited amounts of lyrium powder (I think the dwarven merchants in your camp has that as well). Just buy a bunch from him and make the potions yourself (you can for the most part get buy with the lowest rank of lyrium potions, just script your mages to take them at 75% mana using tactics).
