Summoning guardian?

    As you walk around Chult, you'll find some pillars around. Some are outside, a couple are in the temple. Once you've found them, go to the top of the temple (the bit before you enter) and place the pillars in the holes that are there.

    You don't have to summon the guardian if you don't want to. You can complete the area by killing all the yuan-ti in the temple

    Indeed. From a "progressing the plotline" point of view, you can definitely ignore the Guardian, if you've properly cleared out the yuan-ti temple.

    However, from a having fun and facing the "challenge" of the game PoV, defeating the Guardian is a must for every player at some point. There's a very great sense of accomplishment that comes from being able to defeat the Guardian! :D

    It is a fun battle but I remember getting stuck there on my first run through because I didn't realise I didn't have to do it!

    Yeah, silvery, I'm not sure how one gets around that... it's not like you can hang a sign over the yuan-ti temple that says "Defeating the Guardian is NOT required!". ;)
