I need help from the spf crew on a matter I'm not too familiar with. I want to buy a good Verizon phone with the following features:

1)It's NOT a smartphone with tons of extra plan charges
2)It's got to have a QWERTY keyboard
3)It's got to be able to access the internet
4)A decent camera (this is what I'd like, it's not the deciding factor).

I was thinking of the enV3 or enV Touch, but I'm not sure what else is out there. I currently have the enV and I like it, but I want better access to the internet (my Wife has the Voyager and I'd like to be able to browse the web like that).

Any and all help is appreciated, TIA!

The enV3 is a great phone and should more than meet your needs. I was just at the VW store and needed a new phone. With the prices of phones being what they are right now the enV3 for $30 after MIR or $30 from verizonwireless.com you can't beat the price and features.

I almost purchased the enV3 but went with the Sway as I just lost my phone and didn't want to pay more than $20 for a phone.

I don't think that either of the Droid phones require extra data packages like BlackBerry's do. The Moto Droid is ok, but I like the HTC Droid better.

I still wouldn't give up my CrackBerry for either of them though.

Different platform, yet both are smartphones, and yes, a data plan is required, though I hear one can get data blocked on their account meaning one COULD go without a data package, though what's the point of a smartphone without data? And I beg to differ, the Droid whips some serious ass, my friend works for Telus, so she got one, and I freaking love it (demo line FTW). Too bad I'm locked two years with iDEN.

Back to the original topic, though... enV3 is a good choice, or so I hear. The Voyager is a damned good phone, too bad it's discontinued, it would have gotten my vote. Funny, this thread pops up at the same time I mastered the Mad Scientist's techniques and tools, I've has a rejuvenated interest in CDMA.

But I'm not even sure if it's worth buying a CDMA phone in this time and age. LTE (or 4G, if you prefer) is coming, proof of concept, Telia-Sonera (sp?) have launched the first commercial 4G network. IMO, I'd just wait out for LTE. Oh yeah, almost forgot... Verizon have committed themselves to LTE for their 4G network so when 4G arrives, I'm 99.999% sure you could get a deal by switching to LTE. That's what I intend to do, wait out the rest of my 2-yr, return to MTM until 4G arrives (or hell it might be there by now), upgrade to a LTE phone. Though with the right deal, I could be persuaded to stay on iDEN.

Verizon has been touting 4G in the New England (USA) market now for over 6 months. At least where I live they have been.

I do remember hearing VZW was conducting LTE trials, so it definitively could arrive sooner than expected. Let's just hope they release dual-mode CDMA/LTE handsets, otherwise LTE users might have to deal with the network's teething bumps/
