[IMG] He isn't a child. Children at least display a level of cunning and self preservation  He's over eighteen and thinks because he has 'powerful' friends he can do what he likes.

*I* probably have more power than he does

And put it this way, when I heard about him first I was told I could probably take him in a fight, problem is he starts fights then makes out he is the victim and gets his friends over.

He's on his second caution now at least.

[IMG] I got confused by the "little brat" thing. If he is over 18 then he is liable for his actions.

Since I'm out of a job, I started to send many resumes by e-mail. Since I want to better spell check the message in my e-mails, I typed it in word than copied it in hotmail.

So this morning, I get an answer. First, the woman tells me my resume hasn't been attached to the e-mail (), and she also points out that all the letters with accents are missing from the e-mail message (and in french, there are many many accents). Damn you Word and damn you hotmail, *shakes fist*!! She probably thinks I'm an idiot... :(

Don't worry Triacticus, the people who seem the best for the job never get it, so you might have helped your case by being an idiot! :D

So how did those accents get missing?

On typing accents, I just found out that Linux has the most awesome typing system for special characters. The Mac OS X one was an improvement over the one I used in Windows (Alt combos,) but quite unintuitive. When I want to type ë in linux I do:
    (1) I hit a compose button on my keyboard, which in my case is Windows left and (2) then I 'draw' the letter that I want to type by pressing " and e.

    - á: compose + a + '
    - à: compose + a + `
    - ã: compose + a + ~
    - ©: compose + c + o
    - €: compose + C + =
    - æ: compose + a + e
    - ™: compose + t + m

¡I can even add my own! ¿Isn't this just awesome?... ¿So how does this work in Ŵìñđøẁs 7? :D

Well, there is the french keyboard layout option in windows. For instance, the question mark nest to the right 'shift' button is 'é'. There's also the good old ASCII codes (ALT+1+3+0 equals 'é')

As for why the accents disappeared, you got me there!

My nan is doubly incontinent, has senile dementia, cannot walk, is registered blind and relies on daily insulin injections to keep her alive. However, the local council have decided that her nursing home should stop giving her nursing care and only provide residential care. It means that a nurse has to come in to giver her any/all injections, if she needs anything dressing (her skin is like paper!) and if any medical intervention is needed then a doctor or nurse has to be called....despite the fact that there is registered nurses working at the home. If they provide ANY medical care, they will be struck off.

I'm SO furious with the damn money grabbing ******** at the council!!!

argh, I hear you! The place where my grandmother was is just as bad. My uncle went to visit her one time and her room neighbor asked him to go get a nurse because he had to go to the bathroom (but was firmly attached to his chair). When my uncle went to the nurse desk, they codly told him to tell the neighbor to do in his pants and that they'll go change him when they will have time... wtf is that???

Anyways, I hope your nan is still able to get good enough treatment! :( I'll send you (and her) good vibes!

    Tria,
    good luck job hunting.

My buddy's 9 month old is adorable. Cute and only nonsense in his little head. Not only has he grown, he has also stopped this terrible high pitched wailing he did when I last visited in May, which for one no longer makes my ears ring, and then, makes my friend and his spouse be far, far less exhausted. And I will cook tonight, first garlic soup à la Bocuse, and then a Quiche Ragusaise.

[IMG] Silv - It's because all local councils are having their money DRASTICALLY cut over the next few years because they're attempting to centralise all councils so there is only one per county, it started years ago and it's only really around now that it's causing a hell of a load of trouble. Central government just can't see why either

Sounds good, from reading your posts I gather that you're quite the gourmet (and quite fond of garlic as well).

But since we're on the subjects of French accents, why the accent at the end of the word quiche? Is it because it is a quiche and it is cliché? Are you creating a new word for your nouvelle cuisine Ragusa? :)

I don't want to sound too critical of your endeavours but I'd like to point out if I may that it should be "à la Bocuse" as in French we don't have the letter you've used (I can't even find it anywhere on my keyboard).

@Triactus: I know how hard it is to use accents with a non French keyboard... Good luck with your quest. Slaying dragons is way easier.

    Cara,
since my French is really bad (q.e.d.) it is definitely creating a new word for my nouvelle cuisine Ragusa ... thinking of it, why not make it cuisine Ragusä?

And as for cooking or baking, it can be immensely relaxing. When I'm in the right mood, making good food beautifully gives me moments of zen. It is actually quite joyful to make beautiful things. A little consideration and patience can make a good pie or quiche memorable.

PS: I am one of the manual scoffers men apparently tend to be. I made a quiche on Wednesday, to test new baking trays I bought, and I read in the cook book I used about the benefits of using baking beans when pre-baking puff pastry for quiches. I ignored that sage advice and when I made them my way, things happened exactly as they were predicted in the book - the dough blistered - and I saw the wisdom of the advice, that was apparently rooted in some experience (who would have thought that of people writing cook books) :shake: Learning by doing ... learning by reading alone rarely works for me.

Why not quiche à la Ragusa then? Or cuisine Ragusienne! ;)

I'm convinced that you have to feel this way about cooking if you really want to make something special. That is a great way to unwind.

I have one specialty and by that I mean one dish that I can cook really well. I learned it from my grandmother so you can say it runs in the family. It's boeuf bourguignon (beef cooked in red wine with onions, carrots, mushrooms, garlic and seasoning). I serve it with polenta which is an Italian dish but works really well with boeuf bourguignon. It takes hours of preparation and it's better to cook it the day before so you can let it simmer for hours. All it needs then is a pain de campagne (traditional French bread) and some red wine (preferably Burgundy although I'm partial to Corbières or Côtes du Rhône) and you're set. :)

My niece nearly gave me a heart attack by changing her Facebook status from "In a relationship" to "Single". She and her fiancé have two children... Fortunately it was just an error. I have told her NEVER to give me such a chock again! :grr:

Just out of curiosity, what does "chock" mean in this context?

In this context, a nasty surprise.

EDIT: A "scare" would have been a better word.

Are you sure you didn't mean "shock" insted of "chock"? That would make more sense.

Ugh...I went to Target to get my schedule for next week, and the line to checkout wrapped around the inside of the store twice! I'm glad I'm not working there today or tomorrow!

In other news...I've had my fill of turkey for the next 359 days. :shake:
