My feet feel like they're blocks of ice! It's frigg'n cold in here! I need my folks to go back to CA so I can crank the heat up to 72-ish instead of the 50-ish they keep it at! :nolike:

One should not be forced to wear a heavy jacket, down-filled skiing pants, wool socks, and a fur lined hat to stay warm while indoors...just because one's father is the biggest cheapskate in the world! :nono:

Trying to do a fast5er fishless cycle on the tank using ammonia. However, we can't get the initial level high enough to kick off the cycle :(

Been there, done that. Yes, it's frustrating. Keep on going, it will eventually kick off...

    -_-

I am not like you lousy Canucks who live on a permanently frozen tundra...I was born and bred to be somewhere where it’s between 70-90 degrees year-round!

This sort of thing has been going on with my dad since we moved to Utah. See, he's 71 years old, and grew up during the latter half of the Great Depression. At one point, his family was forced to live in tents. :bad: I understand that the way he was raised, nothing was wasted...but, uh...welcome to the 21st century already!

It takes less energy to keep a house at a constant temperature using the central HVAC unit; than to let the temp fall to <50 degrees (F) then cranking it up to 70 degrees when I get home, only to have him crank it back down ~3 hours later...all the while I've got a 1500W space heater constantly on (HI) in the room I'm staying in because it drops to ~40 digress at night. I wouldn't need the space heater if the house was just kept warmer...and gas is cheaper than power.

But none of that makes sense in his mind. :skeptic:

Try changing the temperature back and then remove the dial or whatever from the thermostat...he'll have to get inventive to turn it down and at 71 he'll probably just complain alot...but what do you care you're warm ;)

Nonsense. Our tundra is often thawed for a couple of days in July. :p

@DotW - are you Canadian? I ask because I always assumed you were from the U.S.

Edit: Almost at 1,000 posts in this thread. RB#110 coming up soon!

Back when I originally joined SP, I actually was very open about being a French-Canadian. I'd rather be in England.

My father used to put the thermostat very low when I was living with my parents. As protestation, my brother and I once ate supper in our full winter gear (winter pants, winter coat, mittens and tuque)... :)

I virtually live in my brother's room for the weekends - the PC is here, and it's warm. No one is in my room over the week so it's rather freezing. Not a fun place to be.

ION; I hate the #33 bus. It is the only one going to my faculty, so, by definition, I love it also, but it's a bus from Limbo, I tell you! You can wait for it for over a half an hour, or three of them will swoop by, all empty. It's never around when you need it. Unpredictable! It laughs in the faces of schedules, common sense and circles.

I missed my buss home because of it. I took another bus, but still... uh, I could throw a brick at it, if only it wasn't occasionally useful.

Unrelated: I wish I could write better.

I once knew buses like that. That was when I lived in Dublin. I suspect Douglas Adams must have coined the term "recipriversexcluson" from trying to get around Dublin by bus. :D

Also, their drivers are constantly competing on who can make a uniform look the least like a uniform. They all win, every day. :shake:

Actually, I'm quite fond of it. Much better than #34 (seats are too lumpy). And don't even get me started on #79.

Wee, we had a party yesterday night that lasted till 6am - with me opting out for a nap between 4am and 5am. My age is showing I guess. Where my age shows as well, so I guess is that I got up earliest and did the dishes and generally cleaned up. It wasn't that much work, and I do it very economically because I loathe it. On the even brighter side it also means bottle disposal will not be my business exactly, or so I hope yet) and it looks as if I am heading into a hangover free and comfortable morning, eh, afternoon :)

    Muhahaha!

I thought you French types didn't consider yourselves Canucks in the normal sense of the word. :p

At what does a Brit and a New Englander know about this part of the US? And BTW, I'm from California...I'm just living in UT until I can afford to move back to CA.

    And snakes don't walk - they slither......So there.... :p
