Kit - Yes, you must work for a company that provides better coverage than most of us get in the US. That's great for you...as long as you are able to keep your job.

One of my wife's associates was discovered to have a brain tumor a while back. As a result, she has been out of work for several months. After her surgery, Mrs Chandos went to visit her while she was still in the hospital. She has developed complications as a result of the operation and still cannot return to work.

However, unfortunately her benefits have run out; she has hit her cap of $1.5 million that the hospital has taken from her. So, they have just sent her home since her insurance will no longer pay for her stay. She must now take care of herself, including giving herself shots several times a day, and her family members have to help take care of her. If my wife fires her, she can go back to the hospital on medicaid. But then she would not have a job. So the woman is just trying to get well enough until she can come back to work. Her short-tem disability ran out some time ago, hence the word - "short-term." BTW, the associate in question is 37 years old.

As becomes apparent, there are two sides to the issue of healthcare in the US: Those who see it through the lenses of their own personal coverage that is provided by their employers - for as long as those employers are willing to provide it - and the other side, which sees it in the larger picture of how many millions of citizens are adversely affected by a dramatic illness every year.

None of his surgeries were ever life threatening....now if only the surgeon could have "slipped" during his spine surgery and make him a paraplegic; I'd never have to see him again! :D Oh....and he'd still get to live.

    -_-

    Not cool. :nolike:

I think he hasn't died yet because St. Peter would jump off his cloud and dive straight to hell just to avoid the idiot...
I can see it both ways. From ages 18-21 I didn't have insurance, I have allergies and asthma. My Advair (makes it so I can breathe) cost $200 a month, my Allegra was $100 a month, and my Albuterol inhaler cost $10 a month (my mom has sweet hook-up on that one). When I was 19ish, my took shattered and needed a root-canal and a crown, I forgot how much I had to pay exactly, but it was over $1500. I got Bronchitis every f***king winter during those 3 years, I got 2 different meds each time which cost $250ish.

Long story short, I know how bad it sucks to *not* have insurance...but I dealt with it as it came (granted, it wasn't $1.5M)...and I don't think I (as a taxpayer) should be forced to pay for other's healthcare, and I wouldn't expect someone to pay for mine. If I lose my job, I can fall back on Jessica's insurance. If we both loose our jobs, we'd probably buy our own...that's what that "rainy day" savings account is for. :thumb:

We aren't the type to hold our hands out. And that's all I can say without getting turffed to the Alley.

    So anyhoo.....

Today is my grandma's 90th birthday! :hbd:
I wish I could be in SoCal to celebrate it with her, my parents, and half of my family who still live there....but I'm stuck here in UT with the snow, and the wind, and the holyf***it'sfreezinggetmethehelloutt'ahere!!!! :bad:

Well, as a taxpayer, let me say this: If the government can't provide the most basic services for the welfare of its citizens, then there is no point to it at all - We should not have to pay taxes for anything. Everyone can come up with a list of, "Why should I pay for THAT?"

Never played the campaign on Cod4, only the multiplayer. As multiplayer goes, it is fine in the sense that there is little lag and the way they set it up (maps and points and such) is fine, but the mechanics of the gameplay just suck! The targetting system (looking through the scope of the gun as opposed to having visible crosshairs) sucks, and is impossible to use... I am good at FPS's, but I can barely hit anything in the CoD games (5 was the worst, even after playing for 10 hours). It is just frustrating for me, I guess, so I don't bother with them anymore.

Oh, and the worst thing about CoD5 was that after beating the campaign on cooperative mode, we couldn't unlock Nazi Zombies - it only counts unlockables/awards if you play on single player. Which is stupid... why would you play a game like that alone?

Argh, which brings me to a point about modern games in general - severe lack of OFFLINE co-op pisses me off. Most games have online multiplayer, but not offline: do they think people don't have real friends anymore?!

    /end rant

Ugh, two straight evening shifts in a row.

Looks like it's time to get wasted and enjoy my last day off.

*EDIT* I upgraded my iDEN phone today and got a second phone that supports off-network walkie-talkie. I popped my old SIM in the old phone, set it on off-network mode, and then proceeded to hide it. I can them say whatever I want, and the hidden phone's speaker will broadcast just what I said... hearing voices?

Games played at work so far tonight:
Zuma - got bored after 10 minutes
Bejeweled 2 - lost after 30 minutes or so
Gem Shop - got to lvl 10 in 10 minutes, but couldn't go any further without buying the "full" version. :skeptic:
Balloon Invasion (addicting games) - played for about 45 minutes, but I can't pass the first "Uber Boss".

    Time spent actually working:
    <5 minutes..... :p

    It's I-Don't-Give-A-F**k-Friday!!! :D

He wants to take you somewhere to do other people's laundry?

    :p

Anyway, the lack of "dirt"** notwithstanding, hopefully you had fun. :)

**I hereby nominate "dirt" as the new codeword for anything that should otherwise go into MUG. For example:
    - my wife and I had a fine time cleaning up the dirt last night
    - I was watching an internet movie and got dirt on the keyboard
    - the dirt in my dirt is really dirty

I'm "stealing" my neighbor's interwebz right now. My DSL went out (thanks a lot f***ing snow!), so I hopped on his unsecured network...I'm zipping along at 15Mbps right now!

    Damn skippy!

After I posted that, I ended up spending around 2.5 hours on Facebook in between short bursts of work. :shake:

Sony canceled several million $$$ worth of orders (we make lots of different chips for them), so work was slower than normal; we had our fall potluck dinner last night so the work that we normally have just sat there as people ate; the boss didn't step foot in the cleanroom all night long, so the general feeling amongst us was, "Well, if she doesn't care, then why should we?"
