Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network warns parents that witches curse Halloween candy.
So beware, the devil is in your snickers in the weeks preceding and following Hallow's Eve

You must be in a weird mood to post such an odd poll. I've never even heard of this CBN -- those people are weird!

Y'know, Pat's a little off the mark on this one. I mean, I'm sure there are witch/wicca/satanist groups out there that actually place curses on candy (whether you believe that does anything or not is another issue) and it may even be prevelant (I have no idea at all), but the Bible actually says not to worry about it. Seriously, it does. Well, pretty much. At one point it says not to ask if the meat you buy at the market has been sacrificed to an idol or not (much at the time was). The idea is: the Spirit that is in you (if you're a Christian) is stronger than the spirits in the world, by a large, large margin. And if you aren'ta Christian, then you probably aren't going to listen to Pat about it.

On an off note, LKD, you've seriously never heard of CBN?

There is no devil in my candy. I AM the devil.

Edit: Besides, isn't it stretching it a bit too far to have unreasonable fear of not only Satan himself but his lackeys as well?

[IMG] Of course! Apart from the fact most wiccans are hippies :D

It's not like they have anything better to do than wind up Christians anyway. Should be a national sport perhaps ;)

You get morons in every faith, I doubt there are more groups cursing candy than there are in any other group of religious fools that tout hatred or curse those who don't believe the same as they do.

But that article is just plain ridiculous and moronic.

Did you realize that most SPCAs in the US won't give out black cats unless someone there can vouch for the family, and that they advise families to keep their cats in doors around halloween because of the risk that some group or another will sacrifice the animals?

Now, I'm not saying it's so widespread that "most halloween candy" has been treated so, but it probably happens.

T2, I just did. I found a number of sites confirming the SPCA and other animal groups do in fact limit adoptions of black cats around Halloween. I found a couple of sites questioning the legitimacy of the need (though all said that no statistics could be found either way). I found lots of anecdotal reports, including stories told by SPCA workers and police, but no statistics or confirmed numbers. If you can do better, please link.

    Cat O' Nine Tails

Of course, it the Snopes article is too wishy-washy on the subject, you can always look at the National Geographic article.

But then these were the first two I found and only spent ~ 2 minutes looking it up.
