    Just want to say, I'm not trying to strike a blow for feminism with this! It does happen and my background is marketing so I'm looking at it from a promotional point of view!

    That would go over well -- though it would be a slight objectification of women. I've noticed that a lot of women don't mind that as long as they get paid!

    My wife works for VOSA, she does MOT test standards, and the standards in the UK are rubbish, if your a mechanic you will find yourself banging your head against a wall at things which will pass and others which are pass and advise, the MOT is well below a service, and it only proves the 'road worthiness' of a car at the time of the test, but that then covers the car for a whole year, and that certificate cannot be revoked, even by a second failed MOT within that time.
    The things which will pass are rediculous
    for example:

    If your spare tire is bald, you will fail;
    if you remove the bald spare from the car before the test and have no spare at all, you will pass.

    A car was taken to a test station and failed on the fact that the passenger seat had no seatbelt,
    The driver booked another test and removed the passenger seat altogether, and the car passes.

    The low standard just creates alot of work for the police, it is a cash cow nothing more.

    Course they are. I've had a car fail because the horn didn't work (haven't needed to use the horn in the 6 years I've been driving.). The brakes that were completely knackered weren't a problem however.

    The way it works is if it is fitted, then legally it has to be perfect. But most of the time it isn't a legal requirement to be fitted. I had someone take my mirror off and because it wasn't there I would have failed it. If my car had never been fitted with one I'd have been OK.

    If you havent, ring
    0300 123 9000
    press the option for MOT standards and they will ask you for the start of your post code and put you through to the local office, they can provide you with details of how to proceed and what courses you will need to pass so you can open your garage.
