I know Obama is a person with opinions, just like the rest of us, but I wish he wouldn't chime in on events that should be beneath his notice. Though I think he is exactly right, I would prefer his was spending ALL of his time trying to fix our problems, I mean, he is the President after all. I would think that most, if not all Americans could care less about Obama's opinion on Kayne West MTV stunts and would like answers on Heathcare, Economic Turn-around and War Resolution issues instead.

But again, he is exactly right though. Imagine Bush saying it while President. "Dat fellar Can ya West is sum kinder jake-ashe!". That would of been hilarious.

 

BTA - Giving an interview, even off the record, is still on the Job when your the Prez. It comes with the territory. Off the cuff remarks just aren't kosher for someone in that position. No matter how true or funny. Don't get me wrong, I like Obama and think he is doing pretty good with what he has to work with, thumbs up to him so far, just would like him to stick to the important issues. Let the rag-mags and online forums or blogs handle that non-sense and keep it out of D.C.

 

I would argue that Obama did it very deliberately and let the cards fall where they may -- he cannot afford to have anyone think he is giving West a free pass based on the race card. He had to make his position crystal clear, even if he had to be a little less than appropriate in so doing.

I think that this will help Obama far more than it will hurt him.

I don't think it's being silly at all to point out a huge, honking double standard. IMHO the only reason West isn't taking MORE heat for it is because people are afraid to be too critical of a black man -- as was mentioned in earleir threads, race is the 3rd rail of US culture. He may not have come right out and said it, but the subtext of what he said was loud and clear -- he was accusing the MTV people of racism. It is utterly unacceptable behaviour from anyone to do what he did, yet the racial equality groups are deathly silent. It's that stunning hypocrisy that gets under my skin, that and the constant free pass to anyone who makes racial insults or slights toward whites because "whites deserve it". It's 2 faced crap and it really ticks me off.

To sum up, I'm not indignant over a "hypothetical", I'm indignant over something that actually happened and the dirtbag got away with it. No way MTV is gonna ban him or otherwise do anything to him to punish his racism. If racism is wrong, it's wrong across the board.

 

That's the first non-partisan statement coming out of DC in a long time.

 

Or maybe it's because people have better things to do with their time than worrying about a bit of rudeness at a music video awards ceremony.

Whoah whoah. That is what YOU think the subtext is, and you're obviously looking for such a subtext. Run, do not walk, to your nearest glass of ice-cold water and immediately administer it to your face.

I think you are overly-sensitive to incidences where you believe there is a racial double standard going on, and in this case you are projecting one where no such racial angle is present. Kanye pretty clearly thought an artist who was superior in his opinion got robbed, and decided to make that opinion known in the most obnoxious and thoughtless way possible. Usually that person is himself, but I guess this case is special. He is being almost universally criticized for this, and even he sees now what an ass he made of himself. Yet no one I have seen believes for a second that Kanye did what he did because Taylor Swift is white and Beyonce is black. Except for you. What does that tell you, LKD?

LKD, I think Kanye did what he did because he was high and normally has poor judgement -- when high he obviously lack any judgement at all -- and was trying to get into Beyonce's panties. Alcohol and horny make for an incredibly stupid combination (...as a few of us have learned over the years). Add to that his incredible ego and that he believes he is the musical voice of the generation (so he knows who should be awarded).

 

More this than the panties bit, but yeah - what he said.

Ok, I had to go check her out. I didn't know who hardly any of these people were before this whole thing started. You guys have ruined my life.

But I still haven't heard either of them sing or their material. So, I've been spared that much....
