Did you ever notice yourself using the smae names for your character in the many different games we play. I usually use the following...

    Good Characters - Valan Sunstar
    Evil Characters - Crimson Stormshadow

    What names do you use?

Saber for most RPG and FPS games (sometimes with BlackHawk in front of it, if Saber is taken).

For the browser RPGs I play, I go with Star Wars names like BaronFel, TurrPhennir (they were both pilots in the Saber squadron, ironically), or Antilles (in honor of Wedge).

I use Kierex (or Keirex) sometimes too; he was a character I wrote about whose name I liked, so I use that.

    Take a wild guess, ;)

That is the name I mostly use.

    Others are:

    Daerron Lightbringer

    Galadan Wolfslord

    Bombastic huh?

That's the point. I never played PnP.

I took one look at some people at my high school back then, wearing purple capes, running around with a styro foam two hander, and presenting them with char names like Gromnir the Magnificent, and I looked after the nearest exit.

I thought it might be contagious, or a bad batch of LSD.

My char names is meant as a joke.

But I only play good alignments, never played evil.

[IMG] I have a hundred D&D characters, a hundred and sixty OWoD characters. I tend to use them for most things I sign up for.

Outside of that I always have characters from Chirofen or other planets I can use as well

My brother constantly uses the same names in all the games we play. I, on the other hand, usually give my characters 4-letter names because I'm lazy. Ryu or Bo for males and Nina for females (just like Breath of Fire).

I tend to use my real name now, though when I was younger I tended to use names from other games or some fantasy story. I usually round out my party with friends based on who most resembles the character. It's very much the character I want comes first though, I don't generally try to make the character resemble them.

I actually never use the same names twice. I make up my character's personality, then find a name that sounds like him. It's not usually a name that means something (ex. Dargoan, Lassander, Naatia, etc for a human, Sooll'ussoo, Fillys'ataa, etc for an elf). I rarely play other races, so I don't have templates for dwarves or gnomes...

Always Lambert. At one point I decided thinking of names sucked... so always Lambert.

For girls NWN generator had Threnia once and I kind of liked that.

For Icewind Dale my party had 4 so I need Beren and Luthien as well...

    But always Lambert :p

I use 'Kitrax' for all my male PCs. Real original, I know... On the rare occasion I have a female PC, I don't remember what I name them because it's been so long. IIRC, I played Diablo 2 with an Amazon name 'Sasha'.

Male characters it's usually a slight variation on my real name or on TheMagister.

With Female characters it's usually just Jade

Is this in any way a tribute to former Steelers linebacker Jack Lambert?

My guess is Highlander had something to do with it.

Finding the name that is right for a character is much more important than stuff like skillpoints, feats and abilities or such. Its even more important with PnP when a name (real name, given name, nickname) can really help portray a character and turn it into a believable entity.

A name can really define who a character is. Its absence can be a fantastic element of characterization as well. Think about Clint Eastwood's character in the westerns he made with Sergio Leone: the man with no name has a mythological ring to it.

There were a few games (CRPGs) I actually started over because I thought of a better name half way through.

Using the same name over and over is not really a possibility although I've used variations in the past I tend to go for sounds and sometimes meaning (in different languages provided it sounds right to me).

I don't mean to dice the choice of Lambert as a name for a CRPG character but to me it would be a major immersion breaker (even more if Blades turns out to be right).

    That's goooooood!!! :shake:

[IMG] I think the only 'silly' name I have given is to my character Trauma in Dark Heresy, it was one of the names in the book suggested for her and dear gods it fits her like a glove! :D

Neither actually. Haven't seen Highlander anyway :p

Basically I was making a bard to play through the BG games with. I chose Lambert after deciding making names fun-ness to time ratio was horrible. And I just wanted to play a game. Lambert is decidedly goofy, but can go either way. Works as a first or last name for some versatility.
