    When you're in a situation of life and death, you have no idea how you're going to react. Some break under pressure and some shine. I just hope that if I'm in a similar position, I'll have his courage to do the brave thing.

    I hope his classmates learned well from his example. I also hope they're cautious when using it. Heroism is great in extreme circumstances, but can get a lot of people killed in others. Thankfully, this guy seemed to know what he was doing on some level.

    [​IMG] A good guy, and he set an example. It can't get much better than that.

    When I think of that 6-foot-4, 255-pound football defender (read: gorilla) tackling the miss with the gun - ouch - not that she didn't have it coming and deserved it, but still - ouch. It strikes me as a stereotypical way for a football defender to overcome an opponent, after all, of all close combat techniques it's probably the one he learned best.

    Wow, that guy did good. I hope more of us can keep our calm and show as much bravery as he did, should similar circumstances arise.

    @ Rags: I guess he was doing what came naturally. The girl probably wasn't hurt too bad, so no harm done. I just wonder why a 14-year old girl would freak out and start waving a gun around.

    That's a really great story. To see somebody being so selfless and putting himself inn the position to make the ultimate sacrifice is amazing. I hope he gets some kind of reward

    I'm actually surprised he didn't hurt her. A football tackle isn't exactly a gentle maneuver, and a 6'4" man doing that to a 14-year-old girl is really not gentle. Not that I'm complaining at all, just surprised she wasn't hurt.

    It's remarkable that no one died - not even the person waving the gun around. I'm sure it hurt when the girl was tackled, but like 8people said, there's a difference between being hurt and injured. She probably got a few bruises, but that heals a lot faster than a broken bone.

    Shaman, maybe you don't know how brutal modern high schools can be. Some of these kids are teased, bullied and picked on beyond belief. If it hadn't been for my parents' influence and upbringing, I might have done something stupid like this to avenge myself on my tormentors. Thank God they taught me to look ahead to the future and be the better person.

    This is not an excuse for the girl, mind you. Had she killed someone, you all know quite well I would fully advocate Old Sparky for her. I understand her feelings while totally repudiating her actions.

    You support execution, even if the crime was committed by a minor? We're pretty hard core in the U.S., but even we don't put minors to death.
