The exact same thing has happened to me a few times, and I have the same browser (but a new update just came out yesterday, which I've applied). I don't have a Mac, though, since only populist tools and the technically inept use macs. :p

...yeah, OR...creative directors working in an industry dependent on print shops who operate almost exclusively on Macs and have for so long that it simply makes life easier to do the same, or who find it easier to be able to swap design files with everyone they work with and never have a platform issue. Like, er, me.

But yeah, other than that, nothing but populist tools and the technically inept. Wait - you also forgot the easily manipulated by clever marketing and the overly-concerned with being trendy. So you're just wrong all over, Negative Nancy. :p

My wife is (among other things) a digital artist and I already knew you worked in graphics design, so I fully understand why you use a Mac. That said, you really can't expect me to pass on the chance to give you **** when the opportunity presents itself just because examining the issue rationally ruins the punchline*, can you?

    * This is true, I may add, of most humor.

Oh no - totally. :) I think most mac-users are douches, to be honest - especially those who iLife!! themselves. You know - MacBook Pro (with matching satchel!), AND iPhone, AND Mac-made speaker system, AND iPod, AND iPod dock, AND sticker on the car, AND t-shirts, AND Mac TV at home...basically buying into the whole lifestyle, yet somehow believing that doing so solidifies their bona fides as a "unique individual" or whatever. 'Tis a silly basket of pap, says I.

Having said all that, though - I LOVE my MacBook Pro and iPod Touch. Everyone I know with an iPhone loves the hell out of it. Apple does make excellent products. Are they worth the extra cost? Probably not (though the lifetime warantees are nice). Definitely not worth the hype, or the inherent smugness.

Yeah, they're like a cult. Circuit was a big Mac dealer, so I used to get a lot of them in the store. They were as nice as any other customers, but they had complete blinders on to anything else, or even any of the real facts about using PCs. But Apple products, because of their expense and high margin, always paid nicely. :)

I have a MacBook Pro since a month

After only a few hours of working with it, I could no longer understand why people still have Windows (or even Linux!), oh right, games :p

Har har :D Most Lisp programmers I know work with a Mac.

    Spinoff! :)

I use my PC almost exclusively for games now, since I have my MacBook for work. It's nice keeping them separate, though they both share peripherals (speakers, big-ass monitor, printers, scanner) when needed. For my trade, I can do everything I need to on a PC that I can on the Mac (and before I got a Mac, I got along just fine being PC-only). But in my line of work you frankly can't do very much without at least passing familiarity with Macs. When it came time for me to finally get a laptop, I said what the hell and took the plunge. I really love it, despite how expensive it was (but hey - that's why God invented the tax write-off).

I will say this about Macs, though: for the average "mom" type user (basic email, occasional word processing, basic financial record keeping, scanning and sending pictures, printing Sudoku puzzles, free online games, etc.) I highly recommend a Mac, and I've been trying to get my mom to get one for years. She'd never have to worry about viruses, slowdowns, anything like that. But she refuses to even try to learn a new operating system, so I can't say I blame her much.

True, I remember seeing my mom getting really frustrated when she is trying to work on her laptop with XP. Simple photo editing is what she was trying to do a few weeks ago. I would not give let her use Windows (if I had a saying in it,) since it feels so slow, dump and unresponsive. For example, you know those little popups in the right bottom corner constantly popping up, saying unimportant things (e.g. unused shortcuts on your desktop,) demanding her attention. WTF? They also come with this small exit-button which is quite hard to hit, that when she clicks the surrounding popup instead of the button itself, her computer hangs for a few seconds opening up a window which she can use to 'clean up her desktop'.

I've been using Macs for 10 years now and if I had any say in it I would never, ever do it unless the continued existence of the entire universe depended on it (and even then you'd probably have to bribe me with a hefty sum). Everything that I hate about Windows was there in the Mac, plus the Mac's own little (and not so little) quirks. MacOS was an unusable piece of trash until Jaguar (or was that Panther?), and don't let me get started on MacOS 9! I've not had to use one since last year (thankfully!), and while it's improved tremendously in the decade I've used it I still feel like tearing my hair out every time I have to sit at the Mac and try to make it do what I want. Windows is annoying as hell but (at least with XP) after a while you can figure out how to make it behave the way you want with a minimum of fuss. The only way I've found to get MacOS to work the way I want is to put on my spelunking gear and dive into the UNIX configuration files - and let's face it, if I want to do this why not just use Linux on a PC?

As you may have guessed I'm not the greatest Mac fan :p

My wife LOVES that game. We have the ATT TV (which is really TV over the internet) and she plays it all the time on our big screen TV. I've always liked Macs. But no, I'm not a member of "the Cult of Apple."

I don't think I'll ever feel that I have so much cash that I'd start buying Apple's stuff. It's pricey in the US, but imagine it being at least 50% more so, combined with your average salary which is 3-5x lower than in the US - that's the situation here. Still, now that Apple's opened the first shop here a few years ago, there's no shortage of the rich showing off with iPhones and iMacs and so on... traditionally, people here tend to put themselves in debt for a decade or longer by buying cars they can't afford instead. And yes, cars are dirt cheap in the US compared to most of Europe as well.

Top 3 reasons to buy a Mac:
#1 - They look sexy! Who cares what you're *trying* to do on it...just having a sexy Mac on your lap makes you part of the "hip" crowd!
#2 - They keep you warm at night. Let's face it, all laptops get warm sitting on your lap...but Macs are the only ones that get hot enough to fry an egg. Now that's convience!
#3 - PCs have viruses, adware, and other bad stuff, while Macs....ummm...oh wait.... :bad:
