    I have no idea why, but when I first read that line, I thought it said "Howie Mandel". And I immediately though "Howie Mandel knows how to write??"

    :heh:

    Anyway, I'm working on the Song of Ice and Fire Series by George R.R. Martin. Halfway through the third installment (A Storm of Swords)

    The thing I hate about these series novels is, unless you read them back-to-back, it's hard to remember what happened earlier, so I find myself constantly referring to the previous novels to refresh my memory. Of course, that could just be an age thing. :(

    Just finished the 3rd book of the Forgotten Realms trilogy of the Knights of Myth Drannor by Ed Greenwood. I forget the title, The Swords of something... Though not terribly intelligent reads, I still thoroughly enjoy them.

    Just finished Peter Hamilton's Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained. Pretty good read though somewhat predictable; lots of interesting ideas.

    I know the feeling, try Baudolino, it's different but my bet is that you'll enjoy it as well.

    I'm currently reading Lanark by Alasdair Gray (a Scottish author) and it's quite good.

    I am reading the 1996 edition of Dracula (with the original 'lost chapter'). It has some quite beautiful stuff in it.

    And, so far, the 1992 movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula" did a great job of capturing the essence of the story. That being said, I'm only half done with the book; we'll see how the other half pans out.

    "The Dwarves". It started out ok, but became a repetitive bore. Very simplistic writing style. More for teen fans of sci-fi fantasy.

    The Mote in God's Eye is a great book.

    Niven/Pournelle teamed to write some excellent books other good one are:
    Lucifer's Hammer
    Inferno
    Legacy of Heorot
    The Gripping Hand

    Footfall and Oath of Fealty were okay, but not nearly as good (neither was Beowulf's Children).

    Finisted Pratchett's "Nation" and as always he delivers. As recommended as everything else he has written even if it isn't Discworld.

    Just finished Hackers & Painters, bunch of short stories from a guy who studied both computer science and painting and claims that hacking is like painting, especially if you do it in Lisp.

    I don't, I only know about hacking in Lisp :D

    I started with Rushdie's the Satanic Verses, a book that is apparently blasphemous enough to put 2.8 million dollars on Rushdie's head, kill a lot of other people, firebomb publishers & newspapers, and on the general act like an irrational twit.

    Prepare to be disappointed with The Satanic Verses. There's really not that much to them and there's nothing satanic about them. It's quite obvious the above-mentioned twits never read the book and have no idea what it's about, but decided it was blasphemous and satanic and whatnot just because of the title. Created huge publicity for an otherwise OKish book.

    "Shadowbreed" more Erevis Cale in the Forgotten Realms... It was book one, waiting for the rest to be written. Like it! Kemp is the new Salvatore for the Realms, IMO.
