NOG, although we've had our differences in the past I wish no one harm. I would recommend you serious rethink this attitude:

There is always someone bigger, badder, more experienced, more vicious, or concealing a weapon. The 'I can take care of myself' attitude has gotten many people killed.

AS far as why I walk away; arguing with someone one such a radical point actually validates them and their cause. Totally dismissing them, completely ignoring the misguided individuals, give the accurate impression that their views and their beliefs are inconsequential to me and not worth my attention. Arguing with them and making a scene gets those groups on the news and the exposure they want. Why give them something they want? Ignoring them and walking away doesn't even give them a small audience.

Don't worry, a large part of that "I can take care of myself" attitude is that I'm good at telling when people are getting aggitated, while another part is that I'm an excellent runner. :) Thanks for the concern, though.

That's why I wouldn't make a scene. I prefer calm, quite, and rational discussions. If they aren't interested in such a discussion, I'm not worried about may people listening to them.

It's like what you do with dogs; if they bark and whine for attention, or do something wrong just to get you to pay attention to them (like chewing things up), you ignore them; you don't yell at them or hit them or look at them, because then they've won.

Of course, the analogy falls apart when you consider the fact that you're supposed to love your pet.

Extremists usually don't want calm, quiet, and rational discussions. But, people still listen to them because they use fear, scapegoats, and fervor to gain people to their cause. Not sure this applies to skinheads and neo-nazis, but it sure applies to other extremist groups. People love to hate people.

Is neo-Nazism a genuine problem in your area? I know TONS of people with shaved heads, but NONE OF THEM are Neo-Nazis. Is this just a major difference here in the states? I know several guys who shave their heads just because they were losing their hair, and thought having a bald head looked better than having a receding hairline.

Now I've also seen a few people with swastikas tatooed on them, but the number of them compared to the number of people with shaved heads is no where close. I guess all I'm saying is when I see someone with a shaved head, my first reaction isn't to think he's a neo-nazi. Shaving one's head is considered a legitimate fashion statement in the US, for lack of a better term.

In the US, shaved head has become an accepted hairstyle (I don't know about Europe on that matter), but there are still a lot of neo-Nazis here (especially in prison).

it's the same in Denmark at least, I cant really talk for the rest of Europe. I shave my head and haven't met any negative reactions to that, in fact most reactions have been positive.

as for neo-nazis, we don't have that many here. lots of general racists though, but they don't tend to be actual skinheads.

I shave my head daily. But as I have nothing on top, I do it for "fashion" only, not for what I want people to think of me, other than I DON'T want to be known as the comb-over guy!:). Like my father.... what a scary thought!

But, since I have started shaving my head, I have had a few encounters with people who assumed I did it to be a Skinhead. I was leaving a local restaurant, a German one, what a bad coincidence, but I love their breakfast and the Wife and I walked right into a group of 4 blacks who thought I was a Skinhead. Before we got 3 steps, I got a "What you think your doing boy?" comment. How pathetic. So we just kept walking and the comments kept coming. But luckily a police cruiser was going by, so the left. Funny thing was, at the time I was the mailman for that neighborhood and recognized all four of them. The didn't recognize me I guess. Somehow, their free money checks from the state that they recieve got lost at the post office for a few weeks, go figure....

I keep my hair really short, but around here, having a bald head is not the solee indicator of being a skinhead -- clothing choices, tattoos, and general de rmeanor indicate being a skinhead or Neo Nazi.

But getting back to the topic, peopm le can believe what they wish and say what they wish. I may not like them, respect them, or want to associate with them, but they can have whatever name they want and follow the law and I won't advocate legal action against them.
