My Computer died. :( Back to laptop, which I haven't used since my last term. Well, in reality, the problem lies with the damn hard drive. That's the part that's actually broken. All three of my optical drives decided they wouldn't work after 6-7 years of life about two-three weeks ago. Yesterday, the HDD stop working, I've an external one, but there's only data on it. The OSes were on the faulty internal drive. Funny thing is, the new DVD drive I ordered came yesterday . Worst? I've only got one Sata cable right now, I thought the DVD drive would ship with it's own... I was wrong.

I checked the cables with the DVD, at least I'm 100% sure the power one does work, since the DVD drive shows sign of an electrical current. I've no way to verify the actual SATA cable, since I've no OS.

My only hope, I think, is to buy another internal HDD and start over. I've basically lost 250 GO of data, right?

edit: I've also bought Storm of Zehir, and my integrated DELL laptop graphic card can't handle it, the joy!

I wonder how much would it cost for a new SATA HDD around 500 GO ?

    Speaking of standard 3,5" HDD, I guess about 80-90 € for a good one like Seagate ST3500320NS 500GB (Barracuda ES.2, 24/7), about 40-45 € for a standard issue one, like the Samsung HD502HI 500GB. That's for a box.

If you have a notebook you need a 2,5" HDD. Then it would be ~ 70 € for something like the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB (WD5000BEVT).

Thing is my Motherboard is about three years old, and only has got one SATA II port. My mobo. I've to make sure the drive I buy to be compatible with it.

Edit: Yes, I need a 3.5 HDD for desktops.

Edit 2: Huum, I've found the Seagate ST31000528AS 1TB HDD on newegg.ca for CDN 100 $ Which is significantly cheaper than 90 euros and double the capacity.

I was looking in my favourite shop, which is expensive :) They have some great things you don't find in other shops. That said, I still do compare prices before buying.

As for the ST31000528AS - good price for a good drive. Go for it.

Finally someone who's agreeing with me ! Heineken tastes like cat's piss. ;)

I just don't understand how they can justify their high prices, surely not all of their customers are stupid enough not to shop around the web.

I've heard say that Heineken is like lovemaking in a canoe.

    Warning, the punchline is NSFW:

    It's f***ing close to water! ;)

I like Heineken ... when someone else buys. The best beer is a free beer.

To be honest, it's the 1st 5 or 6 beers that taste bad, after that you stop noticing the taste. I really like a dark, strong beer with dinner, but if I were in it for the long haul, it doesn't really matter. That said, Heineken still taste like Kumiss...

dark, strong beer... boilermaker made with Guiness and JD (although an Irish Whiskey might be more appropriate -- but not as good).

Heinecken or American Budweiser (or Corona or XX and the like) are very mediocre beeers. Period. When someone else pays, they are acceptable, and fortunately, indeed, after the first five or six beers it doesn't matter anymore.

I always preferred Guiness with Jaeger. Though a shot of Tellamardu is not to bad with it either..

Does that mean you know what actual cat urine tastes like?

I prefer light(er) beers... I had a bad experience with hard alcohol and so anything that tastes too alcoholic (dark beers included) doesn't sit well with me.

    LMFAO!

I found that we had full internet access inside the clean room tonight, so I quickly downloaded as many free portable games (since we can't install anything) as I could while we still had access. At one point I downloaded Bejeweled 2...which had a trojan. Meh...not my computer, not my problem.

Some days I *really* don't understand people. Most of the time it's just me, but there are days, like today, when kicking certain people is extremely tempting.

Um... this is completely unrelated to current RBP thread :p
